Blimey. That's a hell of a move for Dawkins. Be interesting to see how much playing time he gets.

David Pleat, BBC Radio 5 liveASTON VILLA LATEST
"Simon Dawkins is a good player. He trained with Spurs last year and they really liked him. He was there as a youngster before suffering with injury problems and then going back. They got the boy over to America and he did well over there. Will he keep Aston Villa up? Not necessarily."

Story with this lad, 25 and still on the books. Surely by now somebody could have made a yay/nay decision on him?

He was released by us years ago because of a knee injury, then a 2/3 years back we gave him a try and apparently he impressed everyone and we gave him contract, probably wont feature for us but will make us a healthy profit

suffered from injuries so was released. Seemed to be taken back on board as sort of a goodwill gesture by spurs. Loaned out to San Jose (partners of ours) and has performed very well over there. Rumours however that can't make move to san jose permanent due to work permit issues, so only way to play for them is through Spurs...

Quite a move for Dawkins. While I think its great the club gave him another contract after his injury (I remember something similar with the goalkeeper Rob Burch, we gave him a new contract after his broke his leg), after all the club has a responsibility to look after their young players and help them for the future, I wonder what will happen with Dawkins. Lambert has been using a lot of young, English talent, so Dawkins might get a look in. Fingers crossed for him he makes the most of it.

Managed to get a place on the bench today, hopefully he gets plently of game time to get his value up. At 25 cant see him breaking into our squad.

He's good, tricky winger, those translate well anywhere. Surprise at the randomness of the call to Villa but he can't be any worse than what they've got.

He is more of a n.10 then a winger. I like his style alot but drifts in and out of games. A common problem in his position tbf

Pleat said we wanted to give him a longer contract and it seems his contract will run out in the summer and since he isnt young enough for compensation he will be free to leave or unless Levy has his hidden 1 year option there as usual

Came on a s a sub for Villa, anyone watch the match today??

I did, he looked okay, nippy, looked to get in advanced positions from his left midfield berth, then when Villa went 2-0 up he helped out defensively to some extent.

Had one chance on a counter when he tried to go past Pogatez but a bad touch and half a challenge saw he lose the ball.

If he was 18 you might think he had potential, but at 25, I just hope he impresses someone enough so he can have a good football career somewhere.

This must rank as one of the most unlikely debuts for a long time - a good 5 years after it would have been normal to have it at Spurs.

Hope he has a few more chances at Aston Villa and establishes himself at some level - I looked at a couple of Villan sites and 50% thought he did well today, 50% thought he dived in the incident Krafty described above. Pretty much 100% are unsure what position he is expected to fill !

Slightly off topic but its 10 years or so since he first started appearing in Spurs colours - this is probably one of the first match reports he appears in - http://www.spursodyssey.com/0203/u17fu290303.html - although I think he played as a 14 year old for us, so there may be previous reports !

Article on Dawkins by our former player Roah Ricketts.

Well Dawkins has been on the Villa bench, interesting to see if he gets on the field. If he does it will have to rank as one of the biggest comebacks for a very long time ! (but well deserved after getting over a wole string of injuries over probably a 5 or 6 year period)
I think I love Rohan Ricketts a little bit. His blogs are so refreshingly honest and insightful.
