I don't see why Levy is being at all. Villa has simply chosen to sign for a club that is bigger and better than ours.

Atletico aren't bigger and better than us. I would assume he just went for the easy option of staying in Spain. He's been a great player and I'm gutted that we've missed out on him, but maybe that says a little bit about his commitment at this stage of his career.

Imagine wanting to impress close to home in a WC year played a part, too.

Agree with all of this, but in terms of attainable strikers that are better than what we have, there aren't a lot of options left IMO

Benteke's still a risk, and could prove to be a one season wonder playing for a team where he has more space to play than he will inevitably get for us against 'park the bus' tactics. Soldado's quality but signs are that Valencia want big money for him. Same with Jackson Martinez and Porto. Negredo's going to City, Gomez is going to Fiorentina, Higuain's probably going to the scum.

Our only other option is to unearth a new gem. If it were that easy, we'd have had this striker situation sorted a long time ago.

Whilst I'm sure that he simply chose Atletico over us, not getting Villa could prove to be a massive kick in the teeth.

Soldado ?

Also why would we lose out to Fiorentina for anyone ??

Well yes, it's easy to why he'd join Atletico. One of the biggest club in Spain, even if they have had an up and down history over the last couple of decades. Likely to pay about the same wages as we do, they're in the CL. He's nearing the end of his career and been there and done that with Barca, and Valencia to a lesser extent. He doesn't fancy a new adventure etc.

None of that soothes my furrowed brow obviously but it's very understandable.

Goddammit to the bowels of bloody hell!

Wish I was wrong but was always thought a CL club would come in for him because at under £10m he is a bargain. People kidding themselves making up reasons why they're not bothered, come off it, he would have been massive for us but I never really thought we had a big chance.

I reckon the wage situation played a big part in him going to Atletico. Villa being due 11 million euros for his final season at Barca. There's no way in hell we'd come close to that so there would've been alot of negotiation trying to resolve that. Atletico probably offered alot more in wages and they've got CL to boot. 11 million euros is damn near a mil a month lol slightly more than we'd be offering. Don't think anyone can fault Levy as the more info that comes out the more complicated this deal starts to look.

I'm going for a drink, this has me shaking with rage!

Levy's intransigence is all over this one! The crown of astute businessman is well and truly slipping

Am Yisrael Chai, what the fuck? If you're going to spam me, do it for a good reason!

I expressed emotion and made a very cogent point about they way that our exalted leader operates, sometimes to our benefit and sometimes to our detriment.

Don't act like a mefager (don't have an Ivrit keyboard map) you're better than that

clearly it's a preferential deal for Atletico. Maybe a favour to Villa for service, seeing as he won't play much at Barcelona and it's a world cup year.. IF they wanted more from Spurs, as is the indication, then aside from relocating to Spain there isn't much the club could do.

You really think Levy wouldn't have paid 5m for Villa in a heartbeat? You don't see any reason why Atletico might be a more attractive prospect to Villa than us?

Probably a blessing in disguise. Probably later in the season we will all be saying, "Glad we dodged that bullet!"

I really don't think Benteke is a risk guys he'll score goals consistently throughout his career, the only debate is whether he becomes a very good consistent premiership striker or nearer to the quality of Drogba either way he'll be worthwhile.
Could somebody enlighten me as to where this £4.4 million figure came from? I'm absolutely certain we did not refuse to meet that price.

1. Exactly what Defoe has done.
2. Exactly what Defoe is.

Problem is we need an upgrade from Defoe and Adebayor, and we need a player nearer the quality of Drogba. For a £20m outlay, we can't really afford to get this wrong.

Yep, he was never going to be ours.

Whilst you were proved to be right, I do disagree with that.

We must of been in the mix - there was simply too much ITK from the big-hitters as well positive noises coming from highly regarded media outlets to suggest otherwise.

He would have been interested, it's just that he chose to stay at another big club in Spain who will be playing CL next year.
