Considering it was the first game of the season (and I know we've had a pre-season but it's been sketchy at best) I thought we looked relatively good. We lacked some sharpness in the final 3rd but we looked very solid. Palace worked hard and reverted to 'we can't go through you so we'll go over you' late on and it nearly caught us out but Lloris is so good coming off his line that I actually felt reasonably confident even when we pushed up. Paulinho was solid, Capoue looked very good when he came on, Chadli looks like he is going to have a few magical moments this season but just didn't quite get it right today and Soldado scored on debut.

Happy.

Looks like we have scouted players very well this summer I know its early days I am sure they will have bad days and better days but they all looked very technically astute, strong, coped with the physicality and dished it out too. Did not look out of place nothing like a away day at a promoted side to find out what players are like.

Few dodgy, typical Spurs-y moments near the end and should've killed them off earlier, but so much to be positive about...even without Bale.

New boys all acquitted themselves very well. Chadli was pretty good, made good decisions on the ball, Soldado was great throughout so bright with his movement and bringing teammates into play (Gylfi should've buried that!), even Capoue managed more interceptions than anyone else in a third of the time.

As for Paulinho, MOTM by a mile for me, absolutely imperious in the middle of the park. Take a fucking bow.

NB. If by some small chance you're reading this Gareth, we can have a real go at winning the league this year and would rather do it with than without you.

Is that some kind of app? looks nice?

Cannot underestimate how important it was to have Verts back. Without him I reckon we would have become unstuck as we were hanging on a bit at times.

Agree, the nature of our high attacking line really exposes the back 3, so when players as good as Kaboul or Vertonghen are missing we really notice it. Every game he surprises me with just how good he is on the ball, he looks like a very accomplished midfielder in possession. Proper modern CB!

Nice to open with a win and good debuts for all our new boys.

Would have liked to see townsend for a couple of mins but i guess that due to our slender lead AVB felt that Lennons defensive work was needed on the pitch.

Initially i felt that Rose was the weakest link but he grew on me. I will give the weakest link award to Lennon instead for his lacking decision making. Was especially annoying in the second half to several times see Paulinho breaking into the box and lennon ignoring him. Instead he chose to run into a blind alley.

MOTM: Goes to all our new boys good debuts. And also to Lloris for several amazing saves. What a keeper we have! (y)

COYS!

This post sums up so many of our fans!

The weakest link award, unbelievable!

Only saw the last 45, so I can't give a correct report but from what I saw, walker again made several sloppy passes, did not follow his man and screwed up the clearance in the follow up when palace nearly scored in the end.

He is still developing but I would not be surprised if we upgrade on him this time next year.

don't want to just hit you with a disagree but thought Walker was great today, did as much as anyone with through balls, injecting tempo into our play, really think we have much more pressing issues that Walker, Dawson would look even worse without Walkers pace helping him out. I think Walker was as good for us today as anyone, Rose did ok but needs to be more decisive, for me we need siggy, lennon and chadli to do more, cant all come from the fullback position, 2nd half walker beat his man and crossed Chadli hadnt even got into the box.

Yeah. Walker certainly was not the weak link in defense today. Thought he did really well.

Capoue was sensational when he came on. How calm he was when palace were buzzing around him. He looks top draw also I thought Danny Rose played well. Great 3 points this season could be really special with or without Gareth.

Imagine when (if) Bale comes back into the squad, will open up massive space for Chadli Soldado Paulie etc

To be honest watching this match made me think that it will be vital to replace Bale and replace him well if he goes. There were quite a few times where after we scored and the match opened up a bit, we would have truly punished them if Bale was on the pitch. We certainly seemed to be lacking something from an offensive point of view too. I don't think the fact that almost everything from an attacking sense came through Lennon is a great thing. We looked as unimaginative as we did last season at times.

Really impressed with the new signings. Chadhli started slow but will grow, but the rest looked comfortable. Paulinho is a star, Soldado's the striker we were crying out for, and Capoue is a beast. Concerned about creativity though - Siggy is not the answer. I want Bale in this team!!

Imagine this team plus bale!
Imagine this team without bale. Sorry I was not impressed by this performance against a very average team. I know some have to bed in but to many DF for me. Need more width in the left, better support for Soldado and an upgrade in Lennon if we are going to compete.

Look I know it is early days but we will struggle for top 4 on this performance.

Agreed, he's definitely a "water carrier" type of player, he does so much under the radar it would be easy to overlook how good he was today.

Hopefully he pops up with a few headed goals this season as well, but what a fantastic signing!

Defoe is such a good option from the bench and genuinely loves the club. His football brain has got so good with his age, very sensible when closing out a game.

Hugo was incredible, still hard for me to believe what a great keeper we have.

Lennon was really frustrating today, he did well to get the penalty, but every time he got in the final 3rd he lacked any sort of imagination or flair, but here's hoping that'll be gone in the next couple of weeks.
