Waiting for England to finally win the Euros-2024?

I'd refuse to ever play for England if I was called up to the squad and had to watch James "he's a good honest lad" Milner come on instead of me in a match where the result is all done.

Then when England are desperate to get me back into the set up because Barcelona bought me for £100m to recognise me being the best footballer since Maradona, I'd demand them to rescind Milners caps and effectively delete that fucking squarehead from history. I'd also demand him to be thrown into jail with the key thrown away to serve as an example for terribly average players world wide to help out their dinosaur managers and tell them they're not good enough for national football even if called up. Just do the decent thing and go to the championship Milner.

(Dont worry Spurs fans, I'd only sign a 4 year contract so I can come back on a free)

Lulwut?

Since when has a 'modern day Gerrard' been anything but one of the highest compliments you could call a footballer. I think you'll find he is/was extremely highly regarded outside England by top players and experts alike.

It amazes me how people can underrate Gerrard. In his prime, there weren't many better in world football. Work rate, goals, assists, set pieces, tackling, attitude, loyalty, skill - he excelled in all of them.

Yes I <3 Gerrard in case you couldn't tell.

He excelled in many things except flair and turning it on for England. I didnt say he was a bad player, just one of the best of a middling England squad. I give up how many times he and Lampard cancelled each other out. Being one of the best in England is not a great accolade.

I have lived outside of England for many years, and I can assure you Gerrard is not a topic of conversation among footballers I played with.

Back to Wilshire, it's all about work rate and contribution, when does he ever do anything exciting, and that is the trouble with English football, we don't produce talent anymore, we produce grafters.

How did Vlad look?
Interesting. Lovely footballer. His judgement needs some work though. Not so much defensively but when to go etc. Kinda reminiscent of Kabs when he first joined us.

"Fuck it, I'm going the full length of the pitch!" and off he bombs with it.

I predict big things for him. Maybe even Verts long-term partner in the middle.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought from his YouTube comp. Reminded me a bit of Luiz without the stupid hair and overall ****iness.

Amazing that people think he's here as 4th choice....

Yes. I think in the immediate future he's one of the rotation but looks really promising and could quickly make himself one of those players thinks he has to pick in the big games. If he settles quickly enough, him and Verts are the perfect CBs for Andre's system. Easily able to push up into midfield when needed and quick and strong. He's a bit bigger than I thought. I wasn't expecting a midget or anything but thought he'd be much slighter having seen pics of him.

Just seen some of the decision in the poland match. Diabolical from the linesman. He gave offside when lewandowski chipped a ball over the defence to see the a man brought. Not given as the lino thought he was off side when he was actual 3 or 4 yards on.

Then at the death, bit of a scramble but the polskis score only for the same lino to rule a player part of the build up offside when again he was onside by a good few yards. Shocking. If that had happened in the pl, the guy would have been lynched.

As for engerland. Everyone is piping off lambert, who played well, but its moldova. Rooney loosk the nuts in qualifiers, but put him up against international quality like the footballing behemoth that is algeria, and you see the truth.

I know he won't rip apart a German defence or anything but I'm loving him because he's a likeable guy and he clearly is honoured to be playing in the shirt. For now, that is more than enough for a reason for me to buzz off him and give him all my support. Especially when he's scoring and getting assists every game

There are some players who are not stars but are as good as their players at any level and in a team of stars they perform even better

As for Rooney looking nuts in the qualifiers he has been shit against the decent teams, Moldova and San Marino dont count

Apparentely Eriksen was brilliant today....

Not by his usual standards but the danish online newspapers I've read have him as their man of the match. A scrappy 2-1 win over Malta isn't going to bring out the superlatives.. ;)

Mexico struggling to qualify after losing at home to Honduras this morning, USA beaten 3-1 away to Costa Rica also but still 2nd in the group ( top 3 qualify )

Mexico still have to play away at group leaders Costa Rica and USA

I agree he's played well mate, and if he was a spur no doubt i'd be championing him like the rest :D . But my underlying point is that every world cup or euro we build up players only for them to disappoint. Much like we spurs fans have a tendency to overrate our youth, i think england fans (me included) can overrate england and its players. The best thing about Lambert is that he's not the most fashionable player, but has come into the team and looked the part. Personally i'll reserve judgement until a bit later though.
