20:26 GOAL - Tottenham 1-0 Tromso - Jermain Defoe (21 mins)
That is a wonderful goal by Jermain Defoe as he dinks it over the oncoming Marcus Sahlman. He was set up by Erik Lamela, who is making his first start for Spurs. I love a chipped goal. Brilliant stuff.
20:34 GOAL - Tottenham 2-0 Tromso - Jermain Defoe (29 mins)
Lewis Holtby plays a lovely through ball that finds Jermain Defoe perfectly and the England striker slots home with a first-time effort.
20:40 SUBSTITUTION - Tottenham 2-0 Tromso
Danny Rose comes off injured for Tottenham, he pulled up with an injury while he was trying to take on Morten Moldskred. Jan Vertonghen takes his place.
Half Time Spurs 2 - 0 Tromso
21:25 SUBSTITUTION - Tottenham 2-0 Tromso
Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele is injured in a heavy challenge and comes off on a stretcher. He is replaced by Christian Eriksen.
Worrying moment for Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas.
21:34 SUBSTITUTION - Tottenham 2-0 Tromso
Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is not taking this tournament, or this game, lightly. He brings off midfielder Lewis Holtby but instead of bringing on a youngster, on comes £17m summer signing Paulinho.
21:48 GOAL - Tottenham 3-0 Tromso - Christian Eriksen (86 mins)
That is a wonderful goal by Christian Eriksen, the Danish maestro pulls the ball from his left foot onto his right and he curls the ball into the top corner.

Tottenham kick off their Europa League Group K campaign with a home clash with Norwegian side Tromso on Thursday night (8.05pm).
Spurs reached the quarter-finals of the competition last season and they will be looking to improve on that this term.
Andre Villas-Boas' side have started the Premier League season well with three wins from four games, but the Portuguese is expected to make a number of changes to his side for the Europa League.
Wingers Aaron Lennon (foot) and Nacer Chadli (hip) are both ruled out through injury, while midfielder Etienne Capoue is sidelined with an ankle problem.
Jermain Defoe could be in line for a rare start, but Emmanuel Adebayor is not in the first-team plans of Villas-Boas and continues to train with the development squad.
Romanian defender Vlad Chiriches could also make his debut Tottenham after winning his work permit.
Tromso only reached the group stages of the Europa League after Besiktas - who beat them in qualifying - were kicked out of the competition for their part in match-fixing scandal in Turkey.
Defender Hans Norybe is set to miss out for the Norwegians after suffering a broken nose in last weekend's win over Rosenborg.
Tromso coach Agnar Christensen is sweating on the fitness of midfielder Magnus Andersen as he battles with an ankle injury, while Ruben Kristiansen and Jaroslaw Fojut should be fit to play after recovering from illness.

Tottenham wingers Aaron Lennon (foot) and Nacer Chadli (hip) will miss their Europa League clash against Norwegian side Tromso.
England international Lennon has not played since the opening day of the season and was absent from the squad's training session on Wednesday.
Belgian winger Chadli - signed from FC Twente in July - is still suffering from an adductor muscle strain that kept him out of Saturday's match against Norwich.
Midfielder Etienne Capoue (ankle) is also out, while striker Emmanuel Adebayor continues to train with the development squad.
Tromso defender Miika Koppinen scored for Rosenborg in a 1-1 draw at Chelsea six years ago - a match that proved to be the final game of Jose Mourinho's first spell in charge of the London club.
"The last time I was here in London it was a nice experience for me," said Koppinen.
"Playing in England is like a dream come true for every footballer. The culture, the atmosphere, the stadiums, it was a nice experience and I hope we can create something like that again.
"I would love to score against Tottenham. It's going to be difficult.

Nacer Chadli will miss Thursday night's Europa League, Group K opener against Norwegian side Tromso IL at the Lane.

Andre Villas-Boas reported that the ‘small strain’ in an adductor muscle that kept Nacer out of Saturday’s win against Norwich will keep him sidelined again.
“He’s making good progress, so hopefully we’ll see him involved again soon,” said Andre after training on Wednesday.
Etienne Capoue (ankle) and Aaron Lennon (foot) also remain out.

“The rest of the players apart from Lennon and Capoue have trained,” added Andre. “The team is ready for the challenge.”

With Chadli and Lennon both still out I'd go:

Friedel
Naughton Kaboul (if fit) Chiriches (if eligible) Fryers
Sandro Holtby
Townsend Sigurdsson Lamela
Defoe

If any of Townsend/Siggy/Lamela are due to be in the starting team on Sunday then they should be hauled off after 45 minutes. Arguably they should not play at all if they are due to start on Sunday but not sure if any of our yoof are ready to step into a starting role.

If Either Kaboul or Chiriches can't play then I'm not quite sure what we do at centre back.

I agree with the rest, but the above

We have a youngster called Veljkovic, he seems to get high praise from what i have seen.
If not then Kaboul to play both cup games with Verts and Dawson the league game

Then Dawson and Verts take a game each for the cup. So Dawson tomorrow and Verts next week. Should keep everyone fresh and i hope Kaboul can play both games

We could play a team that wont have anyone that could be starting the League game.

Here's the squad:

Friedel, Lloris, Walker, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Naughton, Dawson, Fryers, Rose, Paulinho, Holtby, Townsend, Dembele, Sigurdsson, Eriksen, Sandro, Lamela, Soldado, Defoe, Dawkins
Friedel
Naughton - Kaboul - Dawson - Fryers
Sandro - Paulinho
Lamela - Holtby - Dawkins
Defoe

Switch Paulinho with Dembele at HT so that we can limit them both to 45 minutes, Cardiff away is not gonna be easy.

re. Chiriches - I know he hasn't got a work permit yet, but isn't he not even registered by the
Football League yet? Can this all be done after the work permit, or not? Was he included in the squad that AVB submitted at the end of the TW?

Tromso beat the top team Rosenborg 1-0 on Monday night, must have played a strong side, still sitting near the bottom of the league in 13th out of 16 and have conceded 33 in 23 games, this should be in the bag.
I would be inclined to use at least 2 of our subs for the defence in this game, assess how good Tromso are and see if we can build up a lead, then sub in Fryers/Veljkovic..

Chiriches does have his work permit. Not sure if he's eligible to play at that point, but the permit is confirmed.

Would like to see Holtby start in the No 10 position, but I don't think that'll happen with the Capoue injury and the need to give Paulinho and Dembele a rest. Will likely see Siggy in that slot again.

How do you "know" this? I haven't seen any announcement by the club that he hasn't got a work permit yet. I initially thought he wouldn't need one since EU nationals don't, but apparently Romania and Bulgaria are excluded but I can't find out why.

Thanks for posting squad. I would play holtby in midfield with sandro. Siggy behind defoe. Although it depends who Avb wants to play against cardiff. Maybe your team is spot on.

I thought kane would have been in squad.

Also quoted your post so people can read the squad, again, before they post their teams.

Meanwhile, Villas-Boas also revealed that Romania international Vlad Chiriches is still awaiting the paperwork for his work permit and will not be involved in Spurs’ Europa League opener at White Hart Lane.

“We are expecting [the paperwork] anytime soon, it could have even arrived today, but it hasn’t and he’s not going to be involved,” he said.

“I think for Bulgaria and Romania the process takes a bit longer. Sometimes it happens quicker.

“At the moment we are waiting for the post to arrive for the player to be registered. As awkward as it may look and sound, that is the reality. Obviously the player is frustrated with the situation but we can’t do anything about it.”
