I must say I believed that he was a caretaker from day 1 so I'm not surprised at all. I do think that doing a new job for the first time is completely different to just observing someone else do it so it is normal to make mistakes. I do think he has the potential to become a good manager so now he can go and learn his trade somewhere else. One thing is for sure the Tottenham Hotspur Manager Merry-go-round will continue to revolve and he will get another opening at some point in the future if he learns his trade well enough.

I just hope the bald headed git decides to let someone do the job for more than 10 minutes this time, FFS!

Everyone will have their own opinion but surely the bigger question is why is the Club constantly appointing the wrong man. Or are they dumping the right man too soon?
It is a horrendous recruitment record which is in danger of being Levy's legacy.
I think you are overstating the problem. Basically we've had Harry, AVB, and a caretaker since 2008.

Harry had taken us as far as he was going to, and basically overplayed his hand. AVB led us to our best point total ever, but had a falling out with the club. The caretaker, finished out the season for us, and now we move on.

Given where we were at each hiring, I don't think any of them were bad hires for the situation. Nor do I think Pochettino or de Boer will be bad hire now, even though they, like all managers, will be sacked at some point in the future.

Some perspective is in order. Whatever comments his lack of media training led to they all pointed to the fact that the guy loves the club and wanted to succeed - both personally and for the club.

And who can blame him? At least he had a go rather than delivering the drivel AVB served up week after week following his appointment. Last season looked far better than it was due to one man - and we sold him to Real Madrid basically because he wanted to go and we could command a record breaking fee for him.

I say fair play to Sherwood. He was an interim appointment by an inept footballing board that limited the club's progression 3-years ago by not capitalizing on our champions league season in the transfer window with world class strikers and sacking our third best manager in our history and replacing him with a man who everyone knew couldn't hack it in the Premier League and had limited tactical and terrible player management skills.

If they'd done their job better we might have made the champions league again and maybe even challenged for the title. Maybe we'd even still have the likes of Bale at the club. Unlikely but maybe.

When Abramovich bought Chelsea they started winning things. When the Arabs bought City they started winning things. Many Spurs fans were heard to say, "well if we had £100mil to spend every transfer window we'd win stuff too."

Well our esteemed board proved us all wrong didn't they.

I say thanks Tim, for getting us playing slightly better football than under AVB, for bringing through some younger talent from the squad, for putting up with some shameless behavior by some fans, some of the primadona players who should also take their share of the blame and the board -- and for keeping us in Europe.

Because being in the Europa next season could well lead to the champions League the next season if we can get ourselves a strong, experienced and tactically competent manager to replace the one we sacked 3-years ago, a new defence and a forward line of players who can each ship us 15-goals a season.

He wasn't the best manager we've ever had but he had no previous experience and still did a damn sight better than AVB and deserves a bit of credit.[/quote

Thats an excellent post...great summary.

I've said this before and I say it again, I was a fan of Tim's and thank him for his contribution to our club.

Remember, no matter what happens next year we will probably end up 6th again. City, Chelsea, Arsenal, United, Liverpool are bigger teams than us. Everton and us will scrap for 6th. If we do get to the same position under some genius new big name manger as we did under Tim, I wonder what a lot of people on this site will say.

A lot of people on here are very very critical of Tim as a person and his managerial tenure. While criticism is fine, I hope they have some idea of who the ideal replacement would be and why.

Because otherwise, it will just result in another cycle of criticism again. Remember, the only person who got us into the Champions League was crucified here each week and AVB was heralded as the messiah.

It's very easy to criticise - not so easy to back it up with realistic alternatives for a club our size.

Not necessary Everton and Liverpool will both have Europe to deal with next season unlike this one also there top stars will be taking part in world cup .Theres not much between us and Arsenal when all said and done , Man utd are in as much transition as we are .If by Sherwood being sacked early doors those players like vertonghen may wish to stay put, if they can be persuaded by a new Manager . Also managing our early progression in the europa league will be important .

As for the comments about sacking another manager, he was never a permanent hire. Why on earth would you pin all your hopes on a manager without even an FA Coaching badge.

This is the weird thing for me . The 18 months contract was neither a full manager contract nor a clear caretaker deal . Kudos to Tim for having the chutzpah to argue he should get 18 months without having any coaching badges.....but strange Levy should agree .

Very strange ,unless Danny thought Tim really was the second coming . Somehow Sherwood had some leverage to secure a remarkable deal when we could have easily got others as plain caretakers . Levy gives him a year's wages for nothing just to caretaker us 6 months...DL gone all charitable suddenly ?!

Anyway , having got this unlikely deal , Tim has been larging it ever since . This has played against him with the fans , antagonising many with his delusions , while scaring others that he really was going to be around for 18 months .

I'm sure we generally wish him well , but for me odd thing about his time as our 'statistically best ever manager' was how he got the 18 month deal in the first place .

Correction: Gareth Bale led us to our best point total ever.

We need a manager who is proven in the PL but there aren't many of those around unless we poach a manager from another club OS.

Harry had PL experience and that helped galvanise the squad. Pochettino would be a bigger gamble than De Boer despite De Boer's lack of PL experience. And the club can't afford another gamble.

The board need to hire a proven manager this time. No idea who that would be out of the managers likely to be free - which means we need to spend some money in the manager's transfer market.

Redknapp........for sure with Jol a close second.
Agree about Jol, disagree with Redknapp view. Played good football and sorted out the Ramos affair, but he was disinterested after the court case and the England flirtation debacle and good grief was he loose-lipped.

I've seen quite a few posters put things like "he loved the club", etc. Can someone provide me of evidence or any comment that showed this apparent 'love'? We celebrated, last night, a player who truly loved the club - in all that he did and said. It's not apparent to me as to where this "Sherwood loves the club" comes from.

But I think its clear, which was never known until now (neither Sherwood or spurs reported it as such), that there was a break-out clause at the end of this season. So, in essence, he was never more than a caretaker. Might explain why Sherwood was pushing the 'positives' (in his view) of his tenure.

This is good news, Sherwood would have got us relegated in the next 2 or 3 years. The man was just lucky he had a good squad and that would fall apart because he does not have any man management ability.

While Levy eventually responsible for everything that goes on at Spurs because he is the chairman.

Ahh Avonspurs , has evidence come to light that Levy does not have to pay the next years money to Tim ?

Why choose 2008?
He has been MD since 2001 and has appointed Hoddle, Santini, Jol and Ramos.

I would assume, based on my vast legal knowledge (several seasons of Law and Order), that some compensation would be payable but that it wouldn't be the same amount as if he had the full 12mths remaining.

I think..... :cautious:

Ahh so what we're left with is a mountain of front from Tim...Presumably he knew there was a 6 month clause because thats not the impression he gave .

Well , if he's sold himself to West Brom then , just through this episode , he's done well . The hard bit will be making less talented teams greater than the sum of their parts .

I think that i read somewhere that Sherwood is the ninth manager fired since 2001 by Spurs. That fact should tell anyone with an ounce of sense why we will never become a perennial top four footballing side.

You would have thought that by the law of averages even the most unluckiest of unlucky football Chairman would get one appointment right.

So onto number ten,.................. lucky ten perhaps.
How many managers have Chelsea sacked in that time? 11 since 2001. They have been pretty successful to

Still awaiting the 'Tim loves Spurs' quotes/examples.... ;)
