Levy's learnt his lesson - he won't bail on the guy at the first sign of trouble. I personally think he realised his mistake in December 2013 and vows to rectify it with this appointment - makes perfect sense. PLUS Poch wouldn't come here unless there were some real assurances given...
Levy could have given him all the assurances in the world, but when the shit hits the fan, you know.

I've come to the conclusion that the decisive factor is the quality of support the manager gets from the boardroom. Not just in terms of cash and resources but in mentoring and helping him negotiate the various unexpected challenges that always present themselves. No candidate is ever going to be superman, and what that means is that the board should be alert to their failings, whatever they might be and should be one step ahead in addressing them.

Genuinely excited.

Was my first choice at the start - then (like a lot of us on here I'm sure), I got sucked into the FDB philosophy, then flipped back again to Poch.

Poch is the best option for us - in time, this will be proven!

I was really hoping for FDB, who just seemed like a perfect fit for us and had winning in his DNA.

But I am happy with Pochettino. He's got clear ideas, works hard on the training ground to get those ideas across, and they are visible on match days. His teams press well, attack with tempo, and he believes in looking after the football. He is happy to trust young players. Lots of positives. I think his system needs tweaking a little, needs to work for 90 minutes not just 60, but I'm genuinely excited to see him go to work at our club.

I think it is incredibly interesting that Levy has given him a five year contract. Has Levy ever appointed a coach and given them such a long contract ? Has he ever given a coach a 5 year deal ?

Just got a funny feeling that he may surprise a few and do very well. I hope he gets time to make his mark on a transfer window. Chances are he wont really be able to stamp his mark until next summers window. If he makes it that far and is unequivocally backed by the board, than i think 2015/2016 will be good and 2016/2017 will show his total brand of football....fingers crossed (y)

I was amazed by this.

Wish him all the best and every possible success. I don't look forward to the agenda-driven bile spat at him at the first small hiccup though. Hopefully he's on a fucking catastrophically big contract so that DL simply can't jettison him after 12-18 months if we're not 10 pts clear in the league and in the SF of the CL after 5 minutes.

I think he and Baldini are a good match - good team,... they need at least 2 full seasons together... woof :inpain:

Im pleased... If he can get our better squad playing the type of football Southampton did last season then I'm very encouraged...

I voted pleased instead of delighted because my heart was set on LVG for so long- but if we had never been linked with LVG, I would've voted that I was extremely delighted with Poch

Optimistic. Hope to see him break out some high intensity fluid attacking football. Also hopeful that he'll get the best out of Lamela, a world class talent who we're lucky to have at Spurs.

The big positive for me is that players seem to perform for Poch, and he has a clear team ethos which still allows opportunities for flair players to do their thing.

That said, for MP, coming to Spurs automatically gives him a better squad to work with - especially since it looks like Soton's best young players wil be sold. Sandro, Capoue and Dembele are better than Wanyama and Schneiderlin, and Soldado, if confident, and Ade, if motivated, are better than Lambert. Paulinho is much better than Steven Davis, and for my money Eriksen is better than Lallana (esp if the price is £25million). Chadli is better than Gaston Ramirez.

And then there's Lamela, the pride of River Plate's academy as a Number 10 and a prolific wide player for Roma. We now have a real chance of seeing Lamela develop into a world class talent, and he fits into Poch's system like a glove.

Poch will have seen Bentaleb's debut, and he's got other good youngsters to develop like Kane, Carroll, Milos V and Onomah.

If Soton melt down, I'd take Shaw and Lovren. :)

Re the 5 year contract, call me a cynic but I can't believe there's not a DL get out of jail card, like the break clause that Levy slipped into Sherwood's 18 month contract.

Hopefully, DL will never have to exercise it. :D

I'm on the fence. It's a punt really, pretty much like all of Levy's managerial appointments. I haven't disagreed with any of Levy's sackings but I haven't agreed with any of his hirings either. Poch has a better chance than most though and he seems an intelligent guy with a good team around him. I have to say i'm a bit disconcerted by how Southampton so regularly faded in the 2nd half of matches last season and slightly dubious as to how he'll get some of our players to put a shift in that is necessary for his style of play to work.

I couldn't decide between pleased and delighted.

I was very much in the FDB camp but now it's done and having done a bit more research into him I am quite excited.

I am glad we have given him a 5 year contract and he does tick a lot of boxes like promoted good attacking football, improves the younger players and has so far seemed to create a good team spirit at Saints and Espanyol.

I also didn't realise he had played for Argentina 20 times so he has some good top level playing experience which I think helps as you soak up a lot of high level knowledge of the game. He is young, enthusiastic and if he can somehow get our squad playing like saints did then we will at least see some very exciting football + he knows the league and his results against the top6 were very good...

What could go wrong? ;)

Genuinely excited, think after FDB this is the best option and makes a lot of sense. 10th time lucky for Levy?

Most of all I hope he can cut out a lot of the players he thinks are good enough and wont fit his system so he can mould a squad like he did at saints. He is like a better version of AVB, a more likeable character and has got his teams playing good football + just like FDB would have benefited Vergthongen and Eriksen, Poch will hopefully help a lot of our younger players and perhaps even Mr Lamela who should in theory fit perfectly into his system.

COYS. Oh and bring Lallana and Shaw with you Poch please.

This was surprising. For me I think it is clear that Levy is really wanting to maximise the academy because a) the new stadium b) the ones who don't quite make it (Caulker for instance, maybe Livermore/Townsend/Rose this summer) make us a hefty return on the cost of their development and c) it may be the only way in the foreseeable future for us to have 'star names': if we produce them ourselves.

Pochettino has shown at Espanyol (ok, it went bad towards the end) and Southampton he will give them opportunities and can integrate the young players at the same time as getting results and be perceived as 'over-achieving', and I think this has really caught Levy's eye. It is quite the show of faith in my opinion, and possibly points to what the plan will be in the coming seasons. Continued/increased youth development and homegrown players, with maybe a few less signings.

I voted pleased but

DL has taken the same stance as he did with some of his other appointments and that is based on giving an inexperienced manager an opportunity. For example AVB prem history was short and far from sweet. He may have been good in Portugal but he was unproved here

Pots has limited experience of clubs with an expectation. That pressure is different that turning up with a youthful exuberant side to one of the big guys. Surprises might happen. However when we go to one of the elite they are expecting us and will play accordingly. No element of surprise. I would have the same reservations about FdB

I felt we needed somebody who had been there done and rode the bumps. LVG was the best option but it wasn't going to happen. I believe we forced Manure hand. Benitez would have been a better choice at this time even for a shorter period of time

We at the top of the club need real guidance to take us through
