Messi didn't deserve the award, but I'm not having Mascherano as golden ball, or any other DM for that matter. Hamez deserved it for me.
He's not saying that he did deserve it. Just that he was more deserving than Messi on the Argentina side.

On what grounds- objective, subjective, empirical, quantitative or qualitative - does he deserve it?

I think James Rodriguez deserved it but Messi isn't a bad option; He's had a pretty good world cup and Argentina wouldn't have got into the final without him.

Look at the way Ronaldo and Messi have led two average teams.

It doesn't mean horny haha. Well, it does, but it's also slang for cool or sick or so

Why ? Why shouldn't a DM et a golden ball, or a goalkeeper why should it be limited to attacking players ?

I didn't say Mascherano should get it, just he was the most deserving of Argentina's players, but I would have no problem giving it to a DM and I can't think of too many players who contributed more than he did.

I think Schweinstieger would also have been a fitting recipient. Again, no single player for germany was more influential.

Messi didn't lead this team. Romero, Mascherano, Di Maria, Garay have all been excellent. He's been good but he definitely didn't carry the team all by himself.

Has he?

He has had some good moments but his great moments came against Iran, Nigeria and Bosnia, as well an assist against Switzerland.

Hardly great meanwhile Muller, Kroos and Schweinsteiger who has been struggling with fitness have put in some great performance not to mention Rodriguez

Also the voting is done at half time.

Just not sure what's happening with Messi, usually takes games by the scruff of the neck and will have quite a few penetrating runs and shots each game. Seems to be walking through the majority of this match and barely breaking sweat.

Disappointing

Burnt out.
