He wasn't injured until much later in the season. It wasn't just Sherwood who didn't play him either-AVB constantly chose to ignore him. But we all know better than both don't we? I want him to do well, just calling it as I see it and certainly not getting carried away by a couple of decent performances against MLS teams.

It's not just the performances this preseason. It's the interviews, the Instagram posts, the attitude on the field, the work in the gym over the summer. Lamela seems unbelievably motivated for this season and desperate to fulfil his potential.

Thanks. I'd say for the money we paid he's pretty damn awful: no pace, little strength, not very tall, not particularly skillful and can only score goals from six yards out. Whoever pushed for this signing behind the scenes should be shot quite frankly.

I can recognise some of the negatives from last year but if you can't acknowledge the qualities he posses(that have been pointed out on numerous occasions) then this conversation is reasonably pointless. You seem entrenched in your view so you probably agree.

Because what we needed when we signed him, was someone to score from 6 yards. We had players putting the ball into the "corridor of uncertainty" and our strikers didn't have the movement or instinct to finish those chances.

Your description above is basically that of Klose.

I think like Giroud the year before, Soldado will benefit from a season in the prem and most importantly, a full pre season with the club. A goal in the first couple of games and who knows where his confidence could take him.

I think you do a disservice to Klose. His main attribute was his strength and heading ability, and he wasn't short of a burst of pace in his prime. Soldado is nowhere in his class for me.

1. Poch is obviously gonna shape the team around Lamela

2. lol @ the people who would actually want to sell him at this point...that's pretty amazing.

I just don't see that his attributes (finishing ability and the odd incisive pass?) make up for all his flaws. He just doesn't have the requisite tools to play the en vogue No. 9 position for me.

That's correct. He had more time on the pitch (in the league at least) under Sherwood than under AVB, and this was pointed out at the time.

However, whilst I agree that not too much should be made of good performances in friendlies against second-rate opposition (or even decent opposition). it would be nuts to sell him. He really hasn't had a fair crack of the whip.

DL is sitting on a gold mine...if the boy shows his potential he'll be double what we paid...if he does not, there are enough continental coaches with a semi for him already that they will stump up the cash...

that wasn't meant to come out that way

There are no words to describe how knee jerk, stupid and dumb this post is.

So after 1 season, you're already saying that...

I would usually now go on about other players who had poor first seasons and drew similar comments to yours but I know you won't take any notice because "you never back down" and all that rubbish...

currently we've paid £26m for two open play goals and he's nearing 30. that's beyond awful whichever way you want to spin it. otters is correct in everything he says, soldado has no physical qualities whatsoever and it's not like he's got berbatov's game for example to get away with it.

Regarding Soldado I'd like to give him one more season before branding him 'one of the worst buys in premiership history'. As Blake and the Otter have stated (in a round about way), if he does well he could be great for a good few years, as unlike some, he's not reliant on his athleticism.

I'd be staggered if anyone paid close to what we did. I know it's a highly unpopular opinion but I don't think he's going to be anything close to a major success for Spurs in the PL.

Were you the guy who wanted us to swap Bale for Stewart Downing from Aston Villa? If Lamela doesn't make it maybe we could send him on loan to Forrest?

We haven't paid £26m for him. If he fullfils all the add-on clauses, then we will. As for physical qualities, remind yourself of the goal he set up against Southampton last season.
