Oh well. We don't get the jack-of-all-trades, but we have some pretty specialist midfielders whom we'll just have to rotate depending on the opposition.

We don't have enough good passers of the ball in CM, which is why I warmed to the idea of Schniderlin despite not being initially keen. He's no Modric, but he can use the ball better than most of our current CM's.

Song is a good passer, I'd take him on loan, for sure.

If there are question marks over Sandro's fitness (looked good last night) we could do worse than have Song in our sqaud, IMO.

Having said that, I don't really think we need him

We have plenty of midfielders - true.

But Etienne Capoue is the only one capable of playing the 'anchor' role in Poch's system.

And given Capoue's injury record, it'd be a risk not buying another player similar to Capoue.

What's your onion on Song, meat flaps?

Pretty down but not gutted. I did really want him but I think we'll cope. We only have ourselves to blame, clearly Poch's #1 target but waited and they changed their stance. When will we learn?

Whilst I think we shouldn't just spend money because we've not spent it, I do think we should now go in for a top class LWF or try to resurrect a Song loan

I suspect that's a very simplistic analysis of the situation.

If MS ain't coming I'm gutted.... Sure doesn't look great re social media stuff; however, until THAT tweet is removed I'm holding out hope.. In relation to the players with 'out rumours' attached to them playing last night I feel many were there as a showcase to other clubs: 'this is how good we are come and buy us'... Arguably, Poch may've said: 'go out prove yerself to me'...
All this MS circus has got my head spinning - actually want Monday to come 'round, enjoy the ride, and then we can crack on with our season... ('Til January)

Yes, it probably is. But from our position as fans it is frustrating to see them willingly sell an 18 year old, a player that had been there for a year and many more. It did make it difficult how their prices became inflated but I think we'd have got him if we moved earlier

Did want this to happen. However way Capoue (who's been fantastic) & Bentaleb have started season, along with Sandro (who looked fitter last night), Dembele who I rate massively and Paulinho who showed can work in Poch system in one of 3 AMs I'm pretty content with CM. It was always MS or no one for that position coming in for me.
If that's end of our business though not sure how I'd feel about that. If there was like 15-18m set aside for MS then let's move on either Lennon or Townsend and bring in a pacey, attacking threat who has goals or assists in him. If that happens then imo it's been excellent window that leaves us with a strong and balanced squad.

As has been said elsewhere we're not a club that can just throw 25m at a player without thinking about it seriously. Liverpool, United and Arsenal were all able to bid quickly because they don't have the same restrictions in terms of money that we do.

I think it's therefore unfair to compare our pursuit of Schneiderlin to Liverpool's of Lallana (for example).

I think we can all agree that there should be some sort of release clause triggered for a player when a club's fan forum hits over 300 pages for a player.

I'd agree with that. But it seems that the night the MS and JR story broke out, something must've been agreed. It was after that they were quoting £27m. Maybe I'm wrong. My point is that if we were earlier to offer whatever it was that leaded to the breaking story, I think we would've got him

Showing his love for the club before he leaves imo.:)

Edit: Just seen the pic and it seems to be aimed at the fans, maybe a thank you and goodbye.

I think the Chambers deal was the kicker. After that, the Saints fans went a bit mental and it seemed to trigger a reaction from Southampton. After that they seemed to move the goalposts and we weren't prepared to play ball. I really don't think there was much else we could have done.

Something still doesn't make sense to me. Why would we suddenly stop our interest in Song unless something else had happened?
