I agree with the two banks of four but Chadli and Adebayor should of been pressing since they stayed up
Chadli was getting plenty of verbal from the Arsenal fans and with good reason. I don't think he should have been selected today-but it turned out to be the correct decision!

Adebayor is getting stick which is fair but the likes of Lamela, Chadli and Eriksen were shocking in the first half.(passing wise)

First Lamela broke 3 against 2 and does a shocking pass to adebayor

Then Chadli broke and had Lamela free on the right but went to the left(adebayor I think)

All 3 of them should of done better in the first half with their passing

He held the ball up ok at times something soldado doesn't do. With the service ade got today do you think soldado would have done better?
Yes, lamela played a ball that was begging to be struck.
If Ade played okay he would have got the credit it deserved.
He didn't, if you think he did that's you're opinion, we will just have to disagree.

IMO you can't have Lamela and Eriksen in the same team.
Reluctantly beginning to accept the stark reality of that.

Really wanted it to be the magic is suggests on paper but it doesn't look like it's gonna get there. *sigh*

Lamela wins out as he's is an auto-start for me at #10.

I certainly don't. Soldado does not have the strength against big guys. He does all his best holding up play out wide against smaller full backs.

Will do full ratings later but a couple of points.

First of all I really, really thought Kaboul was near the end at this level but that performance tonight was so impressive. From feeling totally confused about the captaincy issue to seeing a captain's performance in the space of a week, enough said and hopefully this is him starting to get back to where he was before the injury. Vertonghen was very good beside him to.

For all Arsenal's possession, which was considerable, I think we had the better chances/situations overall - in terms of real clear cut chances.

Just a bit more care on the counter and we should of been talking about a hard fought win.

Lamela is finding his feet, literally. Game by game I can see him edging closer, his ball for the goal was just exquisite.

Eriksen, pressed and initiated the move for the goal but overall I've been disappointed, not just tonight either.

I want to see Kane or Soldado given a run ahead of Ade now. He just doesn't offer enough desire, its not good enough.

Did you watch vlad last week? Ade was not great today but he was not that bad

I can't think of a single positive thing Adebayor did to be honest. And I'm not even exaggerating to make a point, not only that but he seemed to put in 0 effort at all

Although they combined for our goal.
Seriously 6 games mate, come Xmas I might agree with you.
Combined?
They are treading on each other's toes at the moment. Has one played without the other so far this season?

Heartening result and performance. I'll be honest, I didn't like the selection nor the team shape before the game, but credit to Poch and the team as they did what I have wished that we did for a long time in these 'big' games... They soaked up pressure and put in a disciplined defensive performance to get something out of the game, and when the chance came tried to counter. It wasn't perfect, we had a slight bit of luck at times and the defence had to really step up to the mark but it so makes a difference than the usual performances in these types of games where we try to take a team on, leave ourselves wide open and get thrashed.

As I said, I wasn't looking forward to the 4-2-3-1, but we got in behind the ball into two banks of four and put up a bit of resistance. The selection of Mason was a ballsy decision from Poch, but the rookie didn't disappoint and fair play to the manager for making the call and the player for stepping up to the plate.

I thought the back four and goalkeeper individually were all tremendous. All had to do a truckload of work but remained solid and kept their concentration throughout. Kaboul led the team fantastically and that was the best performance from him for at least two years. Rose continues to go from strength to strength and Naughton was solid despite having a lot of traffic down his side and often being outnumbered.

It was a shame that we conceded the equaliser. Preceding the goal you could see players just beginning to flag and they just couldn't dig deep enough to find the energy required... Runners weren't being tracked, individuals not quite getting in to the defensive shape and behind the ball, 50/50's being lost... Some changes could possibly have been made a little earlier, but its hard to criticise.

There was also a bit of a lack of quality when we had counter opportunities, composure or touch went awry at the vital moment a couple of times, but it was nice to see us remember how to soak up pressure and then spring forward with tempo. Hopefully the template is now set for future tricky games, especially away from home...

It wasn't pretty, it wasn't the best performance ever, but the team stuck at it and showed a bit of fight today. That's what we want more often now!

Lloris - Two or three fantastic saves. Very good game.

Naughton - Stuck to his task commendably given that he was often not receiving the best help to deal with the onslaught down his flank. Stayed solid throughout and then when he was switched to left back.

Kaboul - Captains performance. Always seemed on the spot to make a clearance or block. Build on this, big man.

Vertonghen - Played his part in a fine defensive effort. Numerous blocks at the near post when needed.

Rose - Another very good game.

Capoue - First half broke up play quite well, second half tired though and his lack of positional sense got exposed a bit. Put in a shift for the team though and generally did ok.

Mason - What more could we ask for? Looked comfortable, confident and used the ball well, got it and passed it on again, often forward, with the minimum of fuss. When he could he also drove forward and made runs into space. Could be a big asset to us, this type of play. Off the ball he, like Capoue, did tire towards the end and could have done with help in there sooner but he kept going and it was a fantastic first start in my opinion.

Lamela - Ummm... Its hard to know what to put. The two or three good things that he did were very, very good and put us in great attacking positions, which should be noted. However most of his game was a poor one. Often losing the ball when we needed to keep it and in the second half, though he tried, I don't think he did a good enough job defending on that wing (though Poch should have put Lennon over on that side when the sub was made). His weak shanked clearance did largely cost us the goal too. Glimpses of quality, but can do better and must find more consistency.

Chadli - One good finish, one awful one as well. Often tried to lead the counter and carry the ball into their territory but I did feel he could have done a better job in getting back behind the ball and helping out in the second half.

Eriksen - Did fulfil a pretty disciplined role out on the left. With the ball much like Lamela, a bit slow using it and wasteful. Made our goal with his hassling though.

Adebayor - I'll start by saying that when you see so little of the ball as a team and are soaking up pressure like that, the striker is going to have very little effect on the game. Especially up against two very good centre backs. To be honest I think Soldado would have been equally, if not more, anonymous up there. However he could have worked harder and done a better job getting in behind the ball. Sometimes you just have to accept putting in the hard work for your team and defending from the front.

Subs:

Lennon - Didn't really get into it. Should have been on the other side to stop Gibbs overlapping.

Bentaleb & Dier - Ok for the little time they were on the pitch.

I think if you play Soldado it will work. Ade works better with that 3 attacking the goal whereas soldado I think doesnt have an issue linking up with the 3 with his back to goal.

Definitely Yes. Part of getting service is to make yourself available to receive it, something that Adebayor was not doing.

What I saw was Eriksen close down flamini, lamela realising the ball might break free, guessed correctly and played Chadli in.
That's high pressing at its best.
Personally I'm not expecting them to click until 15 games or so, but that's just my opinion.

Maybe our best performance of the season.

Poch changed our pressing (only done tactically) and a less high line - Poch must take some credit for the changed tactics as well (and I think he learnt that from the Liverpool game - so an extra credit for that) as well as some good playing performances.

The Players :

Kaboul - Superb pretty much throughout. Over the summer TW I was worried he would never get back to the Kaboul of 2/3 years ago, and I wasn't over impressed in earlier games this season. But boy did he step it up today. Welcome back sir !

Lloris - Excellent

Very Good - Rose, Naughton, Vertonnghen, Capoue, Mason, Chadli

Slightly disappointing other than for their role in the goal - Lamela, Eriksen.

.....and Adebayor who did disappoint a lot, I'm hoping that the story that he was carrying an injury is correct and he'll get back to form.

The Subs (Lennon, Dier, Bentaleb) all did what was expected of them.

Overall a very good team performance, but our attacking just didn't click. Plus point has to be our defence and CM's all played well together

Before the match I was hoping for a point but fearing a caning. We could have won but its a well earned point. We will be a lot more pleased with the performance and result than Arsenal will.
