Vlad is the definition of an enigma: physically strong, great technique, attacks with pace, robust tackler, good passing range, but those brain f*rts.... Oy...

Reminds me a bit of Andros......type of player where you can SEE the physical talent, you can see how gifted the guy is athletically and at times he puts things together where you see the potential for him to be a fantastic player...

But on a psuedo regular basis you become infuriated because he doesn't seem to match the mental aspect with the physical aspect when he is on the pitch....

Vlad is infuriating because he has the potential to be much, much better but there is a legitimate question if he will match the mental aspect with the physical aspect......everyone hates seeing wasted talent and Vlad could very well end up heading down that path.

Hard to imagine why a player that flits in out of the team is struggling to adjust. Needs more game time.

Who has played he last couple of games at FB, what's your point and do you have one?

Defenders- Backs- are there to defend first and foremost. Half Backs, Full Backs-- all of them are tasked primarily with defending-- or do you disagree with this assertion?

I havent had the time to watch very minute of our recent games but from what i have seen i don't like his attacking play going forward, which most of you are saying is his strongest asset. He just bangs in a cross at the earliest opportunity which is often overhit or without accuracy. I don't see him beating a man to have more options for a better cross. Defensively he is poor which we generally agree on, so not alot of positives for me i'm afraid

Name me a FB in the Prem who is a good defender, as I said the game has moved on since the days of half backs. The reason there are so many goals in the Prem now is because the defending is poor in most cases.

He's a bit of a gomes when playing as a CB. Great ability but has a massive calamity in him which creates uncertainty.

But as Rb he's decent
He's no kyle walker but he's better than naughton for me

I've gone through the first half again and apart from a massive boob down by the corner flag, the only other mistakes he made was to let the ball run under his foot and out of play on two occasions.

he put in a great measured cross too, can't remember what came of it(obviously nothing as we didn't score).

the commentator laid into vlad late on, basically saying hazard had ripped him apart which i thought was quite a bit off, some fans may be influenced by what they hear ...

The thing is we already have enough right backs, once Walker is back Yedlin joins and Fredericks returns from loan. We also have Dier than can cover there in emergencies and Walker-Peters coming through the ranks, so unless we think he can legitimately push for a 1st team CB spot, then I think we will need to sell him eventually to bring someone in who can.

He is better than Naughton. Better on the ball and gets into more attacking position.
Defending i'm not sure: Hazard goal last night was his/Lennon's fault.
He is our best RB at present. We can't keep giving away possession the moment the opposition forward applies pressure.

we've had worse defenders on the books in the past decade.

I think he's got all the attributes and great technique, but does he have the mental capacity for this level?

With experience, and the confidence that comes with experience, I think he'll iron out the silly mistakes. He's had a stop start season so far, and is playing every game knowing as soon as one of the Kyle's come back he'll be on the bench again. That kind of uncertainty breeds uncertainty in players like Vlad. Once he's settled at a club, which probably won't be Spurs, he'll be a very good player.

Ramon Vega, Calum Davenport, Gary Doherty, Anthony Gardner, Ricardo Rocha...did you even see any of these guys play?!

I'd rather have a soap-on-a-rope shoved up my arsehole and use it to be pulled around over a bed of broken glass, push-pins and salt than read any more of your posts @TwanYid.

You're a nasty piece of work, personally attacking someone about whom you have no idea, simply because said human being doesn't see eye-to-eye with you regarding a millionaire footballer. I'm sorry that I disparaged a player whom you clearly think is beyond reproach (that means uncriticizable). I happen to think he's played poorly- quite often- and wanted to discuss it on an internet forum designed for such a purpose. I honestly didn't mean to engender such vitriol.

But yeah-- anyway-- as to what you wrote:

1) I said he was "one of the worst"-- meaning, I'd class him with those players you so mentioned. In fact, a couple of them were better than Vlad defensively. Chiriches is a defender after all.

2) I'd rather eat the smegma out of Susan Boyle's sweaty poohole once she'd finished both a bikram yoga session and multiple plates of chicken korma and lamb vindaloo than read one of your responses.

Wow- that's fun!

Translation: "I can't- that would require logic and reasoning, not just ad hominems."

Fine, bro- you fucking suck as well.

Nice work... When every post you write is negative a response like this doesn't surprise me. If you wanted to pick one player in our current squad that is actually worthy of our club motto Audere est Facere then I would say it is Vlad. Not afraid to have the ball in any situation. Very rarely does he actually hoof the ball away and he actually plays some very nice passes out of the back. In the two games I've watched him play at Right back recently he has put better crosses into the box than any player we have had since Bale left.

Can you name one thing he did against Chelsea or Everton that cost us a goal? No you can't because Vlad didn't get out muscled by Drogba for the second goal, didn't let Hazard run off him for the first and didn't get made to look a mug on his arse for the third. Yes he had a brain fart in the corner with Willian or Hazard and yes he may have made a mistake on the ball once or twice. If you look around the squad a lot of players made individual mistakes on Wednesday and they can all be forgiven.

Rating the captain of Romania the worst defender you have ever seen in your measly 13 years as a spurs fan is ridiculous. In that time we've had Rocha, Gardner, Hutton, Perry, Doherty, Atouba and Bassong who were all worse footballers and for the most part defenders.

When we do sell him and he moves to either Roma, Juventus or one of the Milans and performs well in the champions league week in and week out I hope you look back on him and think, yeah he was the worst player we ever signed, we should of stuck with Bassong now at his level in the championship with Watford.
