You're a better time keeper than this JH, I think you are liar too.
I was being sarcastic. Obviously I knew the Eriksen stats were for 90 minutes. For some reason, I assumed people would know what I meant. I am sorry.

I think Lamela was fucking shite and, who knows, maybe Poch hauled him ashore to protect him?...

I wish all that was wrong is the current Lamela/Lennon spat

I am a little bored of me saying its more about the team than the individuals but it really is. It doesnt matter whether you are discussing width, tempo supporting of each other the basic fact comes down how they are working as a group.

Against Palace like Stoke Liverpool and most of the other home games the opposition knows two very important things
1) Push up on Spurs 2 DM's and deny space. By doing that they have no where to go but backwards
2) When Spurs get forward get players behind the ball Spurs will not go past the defender they will play sideways ( across the line or backwards; therefore keep concentrating and snuffing out the attack will come from a poor spurs pass.

Until teams have to alter their game plan at WHL we will continue to see the same pattern as Saturday. We certainly need to see a a high tempo game deployed, space behind defenders exploited with more speed ( and skill is required in delivery) and greater movement we will not see better things as there is no magic answer

Although manifesting itself in a different fashion it is the problem AVB had with the 4231 at home; it is a much better away style and that is part of the reason we have generally got better results

The engine room is weak at present. So whether Lamela or Eriksen or even some of the others there is precious little space given for them to exploit when we play at such pedestrian pace.

I think that's slightly hysterical bollocks.

Lamela saw as much of the ball in one half as Lennon has done in the vast majority of his whole games. Made more tackles than Lennon does in a season*. He creates more goals for others per minute on a pitch than Lennon.

I can dig the possibility that Lennon may just, if he could be arsed (which is rarely the case), have helped Dier a bit. But to say "we needed him" and the crowd singing his name like he's going to win us the game was a fucking embarrassing low, even for our lot.

Even if Lennon was to be brought on at HT, it shouldn't have been Lamela who went off.

*This may be a lie.**

You're embarrassing. Lamela created nothing yesterday-as the fucking stats you love so much clearly show-and our full back was being torn asunder.

Sometimes you need to protect a player when they're playing badly and give them a break. Maybe that's what Pochettino was doing. Protecting him from the bloodthirsty fuckers in the stands.

I'm pretty sure Eriksen didn't create anything stupendous first half either and as those stats you love show, he also did less for the team than Lamela. You think Chadli was an improvement ? Pochettino panicked, and it didn't improve anything.

Guys, this is turning into a very boring 'I'm right, you're wrong' thread. Can we move on? I don't think anybody can particularly come out with much credit from that game on the offensive side of the ball.

Lamela was the worst player on the pitch first half no doubt. Everyone around me ageed he had to be taken off. Infact 45 mins was too late. He was poor from minute 1. The majority on here that were at the game agree, the journalists that were at the game agree, talksport agreed in match reports and our manager also thought he was terrible. Yet still people on here defend him when he was that bad ? Baffling

Eriksen was more creative yesterday.

Lamela's primary purpose is not to win the ball back after he's given it away. It's to create and score goals.

I think we had a few players out there yesterday who were too tired to be in the starting eleven-Kane, Bentaleb, Mason, possibly Eriksen. I think there were a number of Spurs players who couldn't have grumbled had they been hooked at half time, particularly Kane (love him) or that plonker Soldado.

I don't think bringing Chadli on improved matters. It also meant Eriksen switching to the right flank which doesn't work well for him.

I couldn't say whether Pochettino panicked or not but his in-game management does not impress me.

The point is being missed. Its the affect that Lennon has on the rest of the team, and the opposition.

You only need to look at the difference when he came on against Hull.

A blind monkey could see that they began to shit themselves and suddenly we got more space in central areas because their defensive shape was altered due to the threat from the wider area.

Hence Eriksen gets that space for the winner.

Agree with much of that.

Of course it's not Lamela's primary purpose to win the ball back, but it's something he does which others don't and I like him for it and we are better as a team for it.

As you say, one of his primary purposes is to create goals, and so far this season he's created more than anyone else.
Which would suggest to me that he's worth keeping on the pitch when we need a goal. No ?

We're you and the world saying that when he jinked inside to find Davis in space and Bobby should have hit the target?

That's not the point that's being missed. It's a bogus point. No-one shits themselves when he plays, they know he's easily bullied, easily countered, especially if sitting deep. He doesn't beat anyone, he rarely goes outside these days, look what he did most of the time in that Hull game. He drifted in and started trying to play as a 10. It was only when Paulinho came on and Eriksen was returned to the no.10 position that he scored.

The biggest tactical influence was the introduction of Chriches at half time, for the first time this season we had an overlapping full back - who actually put in more crosses than Lennon.

Someone with pace, hugging a touch line, brings the fullback 10 yards further away from his centrebacks. Also the midfielder protecting the fullback. It means the CBs have to be further apart as they don't have a player tucked in on the cover.

It creates 5, maybe 10 yards extra for our central players, and that can make a difference. Just makes it slightly less like playing down Piccadily Circus in rush hour.

Lennon is not the messiah, he's sometimes a naughty boy, but we need some width so bloody badly.

It was both. It doesn't matter about who put in more crosses, that's not the point I was making. It was pace/threat in the wide areas that caused them to change their shape that gave us more space in central areas.

I got neg repped to fuck when I suggested that Soldado maybe did not want to be selected for a home game-but maybe Lennon did not fancy it yesterday? Better to have the fans singing your name when you are not playing than hating you when you are?
I am always suspicious about "hamstring" issues.

But he barely provided any wide threat. More of that was provided by Chriches.

What about all his/her games over the last couple of years ? Are we ignoring them ? because he certainly hasn't had the positive impact you are suggesting he does, not making teams shit themselves. Even in Redknapp's last season he played in most of the home games we failed to win, many against shit teams.

Why has that failed to work so often when Lennon's been playing then ?

He did provide a threat from out wide. Jesus how the hell can you miss that BC?

I'm not claiming he's the messiah so I'm not sure why you're trying to twist what I'm saying. But his presence in the wider area helped changed the game against Hull, it was so obvious.

What you seem to miss is that others around him seem to fair better when he plays, mainly because he creates space a lot of the time.
