Would Levy pay 7.5/8 mil for a player who's contract is running out in a few months time is more the question. I would be amazed if he would, but who knows, maybe he has turned a corner...

In the context of other striker signings, I think he just might (and hopefully after seeing what happens when we don't sign what we need in good opportunities in the past).

I really just don't understand why Burnley would sell in January, the reward of staying in the premier league would be worth a lot more than any bid we could offer Burnley this month.

Yes, but he's no guarantee that they'd stay up. If they go down anyway, he walks for free, and they don't get any of the bonuses Levy for instance likes to include in buys, that's a crippling loss for their club for the foreseeable future. That's a one way ticket to the Championship, especially since they'd likely have to sell other players such as Barnes and Trippier as a result.

Ings is a really talented player and certainly has an eye for goal - but, why would he swap a regular starting spot at Burnley for a seat on our bench?

As much as i'd love to see him in a Spurs shirt, I just can't see it happening in January :-(

At least doubling his wage, living in London, and he would play a lot of games for us. Really don't think he will tak much persuading

-He's 22 years old, has time on his side so if it doesn't work out then it's not the end of the world.

-He'd know Pochettino will most likely improve him and potentially get him in the England side.

-London.

-Not necessarily a seat on the bench. We're still in 4 competitions.

-Higher wages.

Personally I think he'd be daft to turn us down.

I think he'd get enough games due to his sheer versatility and the fact we're currently light at AM and weak at striker, but nonetheless he would still be giving up playing every week at Burnley.

I agree it's unlikely though.

Facilities as well. Enfield would essentially be "pampering" compared to what I'm sure he's used to at Burnley where they're still only in the plans for an indoor facility. As these are the players' offices, I think that's as big a factor as any. There's very good reason that noticeably so many of the climbers to the Prem almost immediately get set to work using those funds for a training facility improvement first and foremost.

Poch: 'Look what I've done for Harry Kane'

Ings: 'Give me the pen'

Very true!
I guess it depends on what type of person he is - if he's loyal to Burnely for giving him his shot in the Premiership then he might just want to repay them by sticking it out till the summer - besides, he'll still be making waves and maybe we can nab him then instead.

Reading some of the posts saying he'll be a freebie in the summer is incorrect. He's under the age of 24 so would not be a free transfer. Would go to a tribunal. Would expect to pay about 5m even in the summer. Therefore Burnley are under no pressure to sell now.

I believe they need to present a reasonable offer, officially (on writing), to Ings, and him to reject it. Newcastle didn't receive compensation for Gosling in the summer, as he only had verbal talks with the club.

Might not be as much of a difference between what we are willing to pay in Jan and the compensation Burnley will get at the end of his contract. When we wanted Fryers from Utd, he we used standard to get him, as it was looking like we would have to pay 3.5m in compo, so it could easily be 5m compo for Ings and for the sake of 2-3m difference, it's worth the risk keeping him.
