I wouldn't say that was due to anything we did. I still saw numerous times where Rose was left two vs. one. If I had to hazard a guess as to why he did a bit less I'd say it was a case of a kid new to the PL getting tired towards the end. Still wasn't properly sorted out though, as we saw for the winning goal...

I don't think we did too much wrong for the 3rd goal. Bit lazy from Chadli maybe. We have two guys (rose and bentaleb) covering Ibe, but Lallana makes a clever little run and Ibe slips the ball through the two players to him. We've pretty much got everything covered but a good ball and a clever bit movement by Ballotelli (he feints to go front then switches behind Dier).

I definitely noticed Eriksen doubling up on Ibe a couple of times and it looked like a conscious thing. Like Poch had seen what was happening first half and told Eriksen he's got to help Rose more.

Tactically we could have been more pragmatic perhaps, but I don't think we were shambolic tactically tonight, I just think we were, as ever, a bit careless, and that cost us dearly at times. As you pointed out elsewhere, we did get at them at times and create our own situations where we had overloads, but poor decisions and executions pissed them away.

I'm all for some well applied pragmatism, but invariably that just turns into a desperately insipid bus park where any momentum withers, so I'll take the type of frenetic effort we generally showed tonight, tactically imperfect as it possibly was, as a very good second. It definitely beats some of the insipid shit we've seen up there over the years.

Dembele - 8
Lamela, Dier - 7
Kane, Eriksen, Verts, Lloris, Walker - 6
Rose, Mason, Bentaleb - 5

Poch - 5. Not putting stambouli on the bench, not changing tactics against a different formation, not rotating.

Apart from the brilliantly worked 1st goal, we were miles away from the quality showed against Arsenal.

But this is just a bad day at the office. Everyone will have that and at least we know they can do so much better than this.

Always impressed with your analyse @Bus-Conductor. Again a good read where I can nearly completely agree. Only think Bentaleb and Mason weren't decent at all. But thats okay they won us the game on Sat.

I think they started tepidly but got better, the pair of them. They both made some errors on the ball, but they both contributed to what was a fast, fiercely contested tussle. Bentaleb made more passes than anyone on the pitch for either side. Bentaleb and Mason saw more ball than the vastly more experienced Gerrard and Henderson for example.

We're above them on the table and just did Arsenal.

I'm not settling for regular Tottenham here. They scored because of our mistakes, and only didn't put more past us because of theirs.
Again, we are young team, we're going to make mistakes. We showed courage and guts tonight. The team is evolving - it ain't going to happen overnight.

We didn't fare too badly. In fact at times we were good. It was only a few individual mistakes that did us. Overall, the lads were a shade too eager and did not really timed their challenges an forward rushes well enough and were thus caught out by the quick counter.

Poch must insist that aside from effort in their pressing, intelligence in discerning when to stand pat is equally important. There was an incident in the later stage of the game when the whole team was on the attack and Walker made a mad rush forward for no reason thus denying the player with the ball a simple sideway pass, and sure enough, the move broke down and we were nearly caught out.

I have to disagree...we did take steps in the second half to double up on Ibe.

Although Spurs lost.....i think the team can take alot of positivity with this game, especially with the Cup final against Chelsea coming up in a month soon. Spurs battled them in Anfield and it was almost neck to neck, something we haven't seen the last 1-2 years.

Personally i feel that although Spurs lost it, the likes of Bentaleb, Mason, Harry Kane, Dier and even Rose, will be more "hungrier" now. Maybe this will translate them into a much more hardworking professionals during training and will be even more super fit and better skills than they are already now. Rather then some who with hindsight, wished that Bentaleb and Mason should be rested. But my feel is that in this kinda games that they will learn, experience and "grow" faster as a player. MoPo would be calling them again to his office and tell them what went wrong or right. They would now know that they as players are far from the "final product" and should strive to improve further

Yes, for those who thinks that this lost is a MoPo failure tactically, sure it is.......but for those who view this, in the perspective of growing and improving our players and view this as a "small" investments for the longer run, MoPo sure has provided his players with valuable experience and knowing their limitations they presently have as players. The future's bright, the future's Lilywhite! COYS!

our heads can't drop it was an extremely disappointing result but we weren't outclassed or outworked. we were just very sloppy and tired. but we need too remind ourselves of the big picture we r a very young side that is still learning and adjusting. this year my expectations where very low and all i wanted was to see proof that our play was improving and the squad was turning into a team not just a group of individuals. Poch has done a wonderful job so far and and its quite remarkable we have done this well so far, this is just a learning experience. i know dembele was really good and he deserves all the applause but i loved what i saw from lamela. that through ball for kane's goal was gorgeous and his shoot in the second half deserved better.he is finally starting to get into better positions, his work rate was excellent and in general his use of the ball was better. There is still some poor decisions but he was very encouraging today.

My pissed-up notes as I watched the game...

- Great game - fantastic to watch.
- Lamela's ball for kane -'touch ya like coco' (song reference for @Bus-Conductor )
- Dembele MoM for us, Dier close second (and fuckshit he IS fast),,,can I just say...we have our DEMBELE back....fuck me it feels good!
- Pitch was a bin-dippin' disgrace - I'm pretty sure some of the dipsters (yeah, that's mine) created most of the bald patches with their thieving ways.
- Head tennis in the first half anyone? Loved that confidence.
- Poch, thank you...just thanks.
- Amazing game, love watching my team again, we can take anyone on in this league...
- Kane loses the ball and races 80 yards back to win it back.
- Poch building a brotherhood of players, sweating, bleeding for each other.
- BT commentary - disgraceful...funnily enough I think it was the comm. next to owen who was wearing the Liverpool kit...owen is still a red knicker-wearing xxxx though.
- You can't give Sturridge that space (not even 2 yards). Rose is too rash..he has to learn composure in tight situations
- We gave them 2 goals
- The way we instantly came back from that pen with lamela's chance and our forward play was just fantastic...the players have properly bought into poch's style and I lurv it.
- This Tottenham team is nothing like I've seen before in its intensity and fight.
- Fans were amazing
- Dembele goal....
- 62nd minute when we lost the ball and the whole team charged back to recover was tear-jerking.
- Walker - good game as you only had 4 real brain dumps (that's massive tbh...still don't understand you thought bruv....)
- Owen not saying kane's tackle on 68mins wasn't a foul is just xxxxty...he's a little alto-saxed voiced xxxx.
- Lamela...I love him and he will be great for us...but he has to MATURE.
- Oh and sturridge is a brilliant player...only an idiot would deny it.
- The way rose, dier and verts went to kyle when he went down was great.
- Chadli not switched on for the goal and watching play and not tracking...not acceptable...he doesn't like to defend but is very smart going forward.

To sum up..Demebele was magnificent...I love my spurs! :woot:

i dont remember ever seeing dembele play this well except maybe that first man united match. He is almost unplayable at times.

As much as I like Eriksen, it could be because Rose is facing a striker AND a RW player with little to no support from the Spurs player in front of him.
I did put rose in front of Davies in my team for tonight but as it turns out eriksen did ok defensively and the main issue was the pitch for their first goal and chadli not tracking properly for their 3rd - he jogged and stopped...all he needed to do was carry on. Anyway, I love the chad (and he loves his abs), so will give him a squeeze as he's just come back from his father's passing etc.

And, really, we're gonna be awesome anyway, so...:woot:

Rose LW and Davies LB sounds like a good plan if we were going to rest Eriksen and still re-introducing Chadli post bereavement leave. TBF Rose has had a pretty decent season at least imo. He is capable of moments of rash tackles and poor decisions but has been very good going forward. I would have loved for us to have signed Concentrau *sp .

cant believe some of the remarks.

Brave effort by Spurs and Poch - we were the better team and we almost pulled it off. It was always going to be a tall order at Anfield 3 days after Arsenal.

he should never ever play in centermid for us ever again

He was never a CM2 and neither is paulinho. I'm pretty sure poch is aware that paul'o isn't, as much as he was aware that dembele wasn't.

My theory is that poch is still trying to explore our payers' scope whilst trying to integrate them, all at the same time.

It's all process.

We tonked chel$ea, annihilated arsenal and should have beaten liverpool at their gaff, comfortably - if we hadn't have been so generous.

This is only the beginning.

Where will we be next season???

Life is good. ;)
