Has started all but one of their 6 league games so far but has been subbed off in all of them including today. No goals as of yet but not sure how hes been doing in general.

Interestingly, there are rumours on the Southend forums that he's guaranteed to start a certain number of times as part of the conditions of his loan...

The fans seem more or less split on shaq - some think the problem is the tactics and lack of chances, others think he doesn't work hard enough especially on aerial challenges and would prefer to see somebody else starting.

Glad he broke his duck. He looks physically more impressive, but he is still young. He picked the right moment to score his first goal for them.

Was at the game. He came on late and looked very good, showed good trickery and looked levels above the rest of the players on the pitch.

I went to the Cheltenham v. Southend game on Tuesday night. Shaq started and played for 75 minutes before being taken off (and replaced by Lee Barnard ).
He had one really good shift and shoot in the first half, forcing the Cheltenham keeper into a decent save but the rest of the time he was living off scraps. Southend do try and get it down and pass it but they haven't got anyone (from that showing at least) with the vision to play through balls to him to make use of his pace. To be fair to him though he did keep making runs and showing for it but Cheltenham played three at the back and they were all big lumps who had obviously been told to not let him turn.
Will be interesting to see how he gets on at Southend but on this, admittedly limited, evidence he didn't particularly stand out.
I do think he's a decent player though so I hope he makes the most of the loan.

Just say his goal from the weekend, good little run and finish.

If they haven't got a passer who can realise him then they wont make the most of him.

Scored another goal today.

An odd goal in a sense. Came off the bench after 75 minutes to take an 88th minute penalty to win the game 1-0

He's not been given that much playing time, so a surprise he was he was allowed to take the pen by Southend - but good that they did. Hopefully earn him a bit more playing time by being match winner

Southend playing Canvey Island in a freindly this evening. Coulthirst starts.

Chris Phillips@CJPhillips1982 ·
Blues take the lead with Coulthirst on target

Chris Phillips@CJPhillips1982 ·
Hurst's through ball picks out Coulthirst. He fires against the left post & Corr's follow up effort is cleared off the line by Banton.

2-0 Blues. Ellis Brown on target after good play from Shaq

Chris Phillips@CJPhillips1982 ·
Coulthirst's penalty is saved

Chris Phillips@CJPhillips1982 ·
Coulthirst went for the bottom right hand corner but Brown guessed the right way and atoned for his mistake in giving away the penalty

Half time: Canvey 0, Blues 4

Chris Phillips@CJPhillips1982 ·
Corr heads Coulthirst's right wing cross inches wide of the right post

Coulthirst subbed (with 3 others) after about 78 mins with Southend ahead 7-0

Good news is that Coulthirst is reminding Southend manager what he can add to the side
