Really, really positive quotes from the York City manager Russ Wilcox. Sounds like Coulthirst may get a real chance to prove himself this time:

We are really delighted,” the 50-year-old beamed. “He is a player who I have tracked for a long time since my time at S****horpe United.”

“He played against S****horpe towards the end of last season for Torquay United and had a great game.

“I’ve tracked his progress ever since then and actually tried to sign him during pre-season at S****horpe but Tottenham wanted to keep him in London so to finally get my man at York is fantastic.”

The former England Under-19 international arrives following a hamstring injury picked up by Wes Fletcher last weekend which is likely to see him miss the next six weeks of action.

Wilcox admits that although he may not have entered the market prior to Fletcher’s injury, Coulthirst is a player who can fill the void left by the former Burnley man’s absence.

“He was the one that I wanted but I wouldn’t have gone into the market had Wes not got injured because he had been outstanding for us in the last month," he said.

“I suppose the flipside to that though is we’ve got a bit of freshness around the group now and a bit more competition in attacking positions.

“He will add a lot of options to the top end of the pitch because he can play through the middle, off a striker, up on his own or out on either flank so all four forward positions really.

“I think he prefers to play through the middle or on the left side but then again he played against S****horpe on the right and gave the defence a hard time.

“He has got a lot a pace but is strong as well. He has got a good touch as you would expect because he is a Spurs player and has been at the club for the past 10 years.

“I think Tottenham will be pleased that he is coming to play league football and it’s a great signing for us.”

He added: “He’ll go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s game and we’ll go from there.

We’ve got a Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday week coming up with back-to-back home games which I’m hoping he can play a big part in to help us achieve our goal of staying in this division.

Important for him to get a run of games, not sure Southend really gave him that, and given they have Barry Corr upfront who is a target man, there was obviously a problem with fitting into the team's style. Given that Wilcox has chased Shaq for a while, hopefully they will play in a way that suits him.

According to York fans, did ok and terrified Carlisle defence. They seem fed up with currenmt strikers (no doubt because they are close to bottom of table) and hope he'll start on Tuesday when York play Bury at home

Played 90 minutes in a 1-0 loss

York City FC@yorkcityfc
53) City have two chances in quick succession as Coulthirst heads over from a corner before Sinclair fires just wide inside the box.

BBC :
29:12 Attempt blocked. Shaquile Coulthirst (York City) right footed shot from a difficult angle and long range on the left is blocked.

Won a couple of freekicks as well

Difficult to find too much info from York !

If he's firing from range on the left, is it possible he's being used as a winger?

http://www.yorkcityfootballclub.co.uk/news/article/two-changes-for-minstermen-2340866.aspx

'Meanwhile, Coulthirst partnered Emile Sinclair in a two man front line for the Minstermen'.

But http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/sport/11...Tom_Soares_goal_in_1_0_defeat_to_Bury/?ref=mr reports ' Coulthirst lined up on the left wing with De Girolamo employed just behind centre-forward Emile Sinclair. '

Shaq Coulthirst tries an ambitious effort from 30 yards which sails over the home goal.

York City FC@yorkcityfc
Shaq Coulthirst latches onto a long ball forward and superbly fires past Lenny Pidgeley - nothing more than City deserve (1st goal)

York City FC@yorkcityfc
Coulthirst has a great chance to make it three for City but he can't quite get his feet sorted out as he raced towards goal.

York City FC@yorkcityfc
Coulthirst sees a one-on-one effort blocked by the keeper before O'Hanlon fires the rebound at a covering defender.

York City FC@yorkcityfc
Shaq Coulthirst strikes the ball past the keeper with real composure after surging into the box. (2nd goal)

York had their gk sent off after 30 mins with York 2-0 ahead, before winning 4-1 despite having 10 men.

Good win for York - but good for Shaq as York have just brought in 2 other strikers on loan last week to ensure they avoid relegation. Hopefully after scoring 2 he's assured of his place for a few games and has a chance to score more. Seems to have had a good game today with a number of chances

Is he good enough to be our third choice striker? If we do sell Ade and Bobby and bring in someone. We could have him as backup. It's not like he will be relied upon regularly unless we have massive injury problems.

Think everibody would like the concept, but think we would need to see that he can play at the level we need from time to time in order to fulfill the 3rd striker role before we need him to do that for us.

Ideally he will score a few more for York to earn a lace in the pre-season squad - and with Harry likely to away with E u21's and (hopefully) Adebayor and Soldado off, the new incoming striker will need rotation in pre-season so giving Shaq a chance to see if he is good enough for the 3rd striker role.

But think he's still got a way to go.

I'm just worried if we get a third striker they wont be happy sitting on the bench or not being in the squad (unless Ade stays).
