It was only a couple of years ago he got young player of the year award. Since then he had almost a year out with a serious injury. Let him have a pre season and see if he can get back to his best.
People were slagging Rose off last year.

When fit Walker is still more of a liability than Rose. I trust Poch to know whether Trippier is needed or not.

Rose has imoroved his game immeasurably since Davies came in and Walker now knows the system. Improve or ship out. I see no issue with this.

Which two?

Doesn't he take all their corners for them, and free kicks?

Isn't there a stat which also shows he has 'misplaced' 200 passes more than anybody else in the Premier League?

I know people hate Walker, but to suggest this guy is better than him is absolutely ludicrous.

Oh come off it, and open your mind a little. Do those stats that you supposedly saw, say how many of those "misplaced passes" were actually crosses that were cleared by a defender, or flicked off a defenders head as it was heading straight for its desired target?

Each and every one of the crosses that ended up as I just described, would be put into the ever expanding world of unimportant stats, as a misplaced pass. The truth is, they were likely very good crosses, as that's his biggest strength, but that flick off a defenders head will have, ultimately, resulted in the cross going down as one of the pointless stats that you've attempted to use as a stick to bash the lad with.

I can only assume you've never played the game? Why do I say that? Well if you had played the game, you'd be all too aware of what I've attempted to explain/describe, and would know only too well that the stat you spouted was about as relevant to this lads ability, as being buggered by an elephant is to your chances of winning Miss world.

Mate, unless Lennon is being allowed back into the squad, Walker will NEVER be anything like the player who got that award. It is NOT a coincidence that Lennon has been absent from the team, and Walker has been shown up as incapable of doing his job properly. The reason for that, is because Lennon did Walkers defending for him.

As for the people who were slagging off Rose last season, they're probably the same ones who were slagging Kane off, and also Sigurdsson too. They don't want to show any patience, or support, for anyone who doesn't have Messi-esque ability, or a Parker-esque workrate. Thankfully the majority of 'supporters' have been rewarded this season, via Kane showing the dismissers exactly what he can do, and Sigurdsson showing the dismissers exactly what we've lost.

Re-read my post and see how I have inverted 'misplaced'. I can only assume your level of English is about as good as my perceived lack of experience playing football...

As discussed with @Gaz_Gammon, I wasn't using that stat to necessarily "bash the lad". However, if you are going to use stats such as he did then you also have to consider the ones that don't favour your viewpoint also if relevant. That's why i asked Gaz for further information but that fact that he has winner'd your post and not replied would suggest he perhaps doesn't have those answers...

From watching Trippier over the course of the season, he is clearly very good at putting in a percentage ball to the danger area. However, I don't see how that benefits us, a team that plays with one isolated striker and nobody else looking to get on the end of a cross. Poch's 'philosophy' would suggest that style of attacking isn't going to change either.

However, what would benefit us is a right back who we can rely on and is very rarely injured and can be fairly reliable. Tripper certainly trumps Walker currently in that respect.

I don't need to re-read your post, I read it, and paid particular attention to the part that I've bolded in this response (y)

A very good cross is NOT a misplaced pass if a defender beats the attacker to it. That is what I argued/protested, because that is exactly the type of "misplaced pass" that will be used in the stats that you used to mock the Trippier link.

Stats mean fuck all, full stop! What does mean something, is having a player who can actually cross a ball. At the moment, our best crosser appears to be our 3rd choice Centre-Back, are you happy with that? Or would you prefer to continue with the likes of Walker & Townsend, who don't appear to be able to cross their legs, let alone the ball.

All said in peace, all done without handing you a negative rep, and all done without questioning your level of English comprehension

You still aren't understanding.

By inverting it I was questioning the stat myself, I am not beating Tripper or anybody else with it. I agree with what you are saying! But, at the same time I don't think somebody can then use the "he has more assists than x" stat at the same time as he clearly is a full back who just puts in cross after cross into an area.

However, as I said above, I don't see what difference it would make if we had full backs who could cross because we don't ever have enough players in the box anyway. That has been an issue all season long.

Maybe a cross-happy full back will solve that though, I don't know.

Ah now I get you, sorry I didn't understand yesterday (y)

Yep you're spot-on, re never having numbers in the box. I am obviously only guessing, but I reckon that the season we've just witnessed, was one where Poch was playing the safe game, one which utilised a formation that the players were familiar with, thus allowing him to fully assess his options with the smallest possible risk.

Think of his Southampton team, it was one which saw the attacking players very much involved in things in the area. The likes of Rickie Lambert, Jay Rodriguez & Adam Lallana, had by far the most productive season in their entire career, scoring a combined 37 league goals between them, and also creating a total of 19 assists.

Many/most of those goals came from the likes of Clyne & Shaw getting down the line, then whipping in crosses to Lambert, Lallana & Rodriguez, and many of the assists came from the attackers feeding eachother once the cross has been whipped in.

I reckon we are going to be seeing something very similar this season. Kane isn't going to be the only target, our midfield isn't going to be so opposed to actually passing forward, and our play in general isn't going to be lethargic & robot-like. Well that's what I'm hoping for anyway. (y)
