Just seen live USA demolish NZ in group stage of u 20 World Cup.

Carter-Vickers outstanding. Already built like a man at 17.

Definitely one with a big future.

Defends with strength. Attacks corners with strength. Created the first goal by burying a header from attacking corner on the underside of the bar for team mate to finish.

Someone has scouted well there.

Carter-Vickers is just having a monster of a game in central defense so far #USAvNZL

Carter-Vickers is a monster. Just an absolute beast. #OneNationOneTeam#U20WC#USAvsNZL

It's crazy that Carter-Vickers is only 17, could easily see him as a USMNT regular by the time he is 19/20.

Carter-Vickers looks a very sturdy defender. Plays for Tottenham and US took him from England.Hasn't lost his concentration once in the game

Stand out players have been carter-vickers & gedion for sure

From US Soccer Forum:

I wonder why England let CCV go so easily?

This might be one of the few and first times a top nation regrets losing a player to us
CCV might start for us in Russia

-CCV looks like he's 27. Might be the beard.

-CCV is a BEAST

-While we go gaga for the attack, CCV is putting on a defensive clinic. The ceiling for this kid is crazy high.

-shocking he's only 17
Obvious why Spurs are so high on him though

-CCV is the defensive MVP

-I'ts a pleasure to see CCV and MM win every aerial ball and clean up the garbage back there. Miazga needs to cool it though.

There are true difference-makers at every level of this U-20 team, and that is a good feeling. Carter-Vickers, Hyndman, Zelalem, Rubin.

Alex ‏@AnfieldUSA 58s58 seconds ago
Some really good performances by some #USMNT U20s who play club ball in England: Zelalem (Arsenal), Carter-Vickers(Spurs), Hyndman (Fulham)

@Shollow1 How much of a beast is Carter-Vickers? #Spurs

Nate Winslow ‏@nate_winslow 8m8 minutes ago
@DrGMLaTulippe Emerson and Carter-Vickers too. Unreal poise and game IQ for a 17 year old, and his physical skillset is terrifying already.

Despite his physicality being hugely impressive for his age,he's a man at 17, and his aerial ability , timing of tackles etc being great already-the thing I look for in defenders to see if they are that cut above is their defensive positioning, decision making and concentration.

These things that let very good defenders down don't seem to be an issue for him whatsoever, he generally knows exactly where to position himself, when to step in to tackles, go wide to cut off attacks or cover his CB partner/FB. It seems to come naturally to him, like the opposite of a great a great NO10 who always knows where he will find space. I have also not seen him switch off, he is always alert- fantastic concentration levels and will to do his job.

This is only based off a few games and mostly for the US - there are certainly more knowledgeable residents in our youth thread, but as a defensive player myself * I am just hugely excited about his potential.

Would like to see him with the first team in pre season and maybe introduce him as the 5th CB if he passes the test. He will be ready soon to be around the 1st team squad if not already...

*Of not quite the same ability....... :cautious:

He was born in England. His father was a basketball player who went to the USA.

Maybe he could still switch to England via the second chance option ?

Well at least we haven't gone out and signed any young Cb's who need time to develop that might block his progression.....

Hopefully we can keep the likes of him, edwards, roles, onomah, winks etc... Together with the likes of kane pritchard and benteb.
If they all reach their potential we will have some squad playing in the new stadium.

Have exactly the same feeling about CCV as I did watching Campbell (shivers) and King develop through our youth system. Hopefully he follows the path of the latter minus the injuries and becomes a club legend.

We'll probably be selling two centre backs in Kaboul and Chiriches, though.

Yeah I don't mean to do dis Wimmer, he may be great I've never seen him play but I'd rather someone to come in a make a difference to our starting 11, we've Dier, Veljkovic and ccv to develop

Really good player, don't see the need in bigging him up though - it serves no purpose whatsoever.

Really frustrates me that we turned to Dier before this guy.

CCV definitely impressed by his performance but nothing much to defend against really. Will be worth watching in the knockout phase.

We got Dier when CCV was 16...Dier has turned out to be an astute signing, no matter how well CCV develops. We can't always wait on potential to fill holes in the squad.

He still can as of now, but judging from his quotes it does seem as if he's pretty intent to play for the US. Getting to these kids early makes a big difference, and the US got to him at a young age to get him in with his age bracket and the coaches.

While there are many of these players who have American fathers but those fathers return to the US and the kid stays in Europe, CCV's case is also unusual in that he has maintained a very close relationship with his father. His father has actively been involved in his upbringing, actively been involved in his football pursuit, makes trips to England, and CCV makes annual trips to the US to visit him. Contrast that with Jeremy Toljan, a German RB whose American serviceman father left Germany at a young age and is even now deceased, when Klinsmann called him to ask if he was interested in playing for the US, he simply said "nope" and that was the end of the conversation.

With England, there are also quite a few talents near to his age, but with the US there's a very good chance he's at least in the squad for Russia 2018. So there is still a chance, but I doubt it. The most significant factors would seem to suggest him remaining with the US.

Good stuff, hopefully he continues to improve. Being so highly regarded by the USA national team will benefit him so much more than simply hoping for an England call up some day.

I'm loving the quality prospects that our academy is producing. If Caulker had stayed and developed the way we expected him to, we could have had a homegrown CB partnership in the next couple of years.

He'd probably be a better player had he stayed with us, rather than leaving for two successive relegation battles.

we could still have that with ccv and veljkovic, though it remains to be seen whether the latter ends up as a cb or a dm.
