Isn't it possible for you negative Nancys to post your opinions without shitting over people who are excited about our new players/stadium news? Just because they're happy, doesn't mean it's only because the players are "new and shiny". It's more likely that they just have a higher/different opinion based on what they've seen. If you guy's were always right about everything then fair enough but nobody is always right so just try to accept that people hold other views for legitimate reasons.

I can't stand people getting on players backs before they've kicked a ball for us, it's just ridiculous.

It's just that some people like to get in nice and early with the negative bullshit, so that 6 months down the line when a player has had a ropey month they can quote their own post and say "Look how clever I am, I was right all along". I also think it's a little bit of an attention thing.

plenty of game time in tin pot games that don't really benefit him. after making 25 starts in the league last year he should be following that up with a full 38(or as close to that as possible) game season, now he probably won't even make it into double digits. i hope pochettino shows some integrity and says that it's alderweireld's job to win the place from dier and not the other way around - just like he did with rose/davies.
How many games did he have at CB?

I think he could use a full season where he is only worried about playing CB, and then we go from there.

Absolutely spot on! It's not their opinions I take issue with but the certainty with which they dismiss others.

To be honest I don't think where Dier is at now as a CB that he is good enough for where we want to be. He played a high amount of games out of position at RB and showed what a capable and intelligent footballer he is however when he's played CB in a big game e.g. Man.U away he simply looked out of his depth and I think playing him in 38 games next season as you suggest would actually do more harm than good. He is still young and yes may be frustrated he may not start as many PL games as he'd like but Jan and Toby will no doubt get injuries or suspensions and tiredness and as long as we have some decent cup runs I'm sure he and Wimmer will get a good 20 or so games next season.

As long as we sell Chiriches, Fazio and Kaboul I'll be happy, if we keep Fazio and he plays ahead of Dier then sure we may be risking wasting a potentially huge talent.

TA is a good signing for sure.

walker, vertonghen, mason, bentaleb, townsend, eriksen, chadli and kane also looked out of their depth at old trafford, let's replace them all with southampton's finest too? he didn't look out of his depth at home to arsenal, or does that not count as a big game?

Goes both ways. Moreso the other way, actually.

I'm not dismissing your opinion though, if you don't rate a player and you post about it then that's fine, it would be boring if we all shared the same view anyway. It's the accusation that people are only excited about this signing because he's new that I find to be a bit stupid.

Alderweireld seemed like a decent enough player whenever I've seen him but we do have to qualify last season's games with the fact that Southampton were ultra conservative, and defended well as a team, my biggest concern, and it was my concern when we were first linked, is the negative impact it's going to have on the development of Dier. As a CB, I thought Dier showed some really good qualities (footballing and leadership), especially considering his age and the fact it was his first season in the EPL.

I reckon he'll be a brilliant signing for us

I have a sneaky suspicion though that outside of football, he dresses like a ****.

Your never normally positive about anything.

Not making unforced or forced errors is big plus because we have always been prone to our defenders having a gaff. Looks like he is one out of the black box.

I like Dier and do think this signing will set him back a bit in terms of game time but it's potentially a 60 game season and although he probably won't play in the big game if he plays well when selected Poch will start him for the bigger games.

Wimmer will ge the one who will hardly get game time.

Fazio although decent prob needs to go as and obviously so does Chiriches and Kaboul

Why do people only think there are 30 games in a season? Dier will get plenty of playing time next season, and will turn in to a phenomenal prospect I'm certain. Chill the fuck out!

I also don't want to see dier's progress stunted. He had some really good games last year and I thought he looked a real prospect. Very quick, strong, aggressive, decent in the air and a goal threat. I would play him above Fazio all day long. I hope he gets game time in the cups this year.

I really think Toby and Jan will be first choice though. They will be a very cultured and classy pairing imo. Looking forward to seeing them.

All we need now is a creative deep mid, a winger and a striker!

Didn't we play the most games of any team in the Prem last year? We'll have more than enough games for Dier and Wimmer to get stuck in. Plus, any injuries mean they'll start even more games.
