Loved his spell at Spurs, was my favourite player at time. Always played with his whole heart and loved the club and fans to bits.

"And Harry [Redknapp] — he was like your dad. I would give everything for that man; I was really sad when he left. I think the England job would have been the best job for him and also for England."

Damn I miss those days. Fuck you AVB!
Ah the days when we used to attack teams rather than playing 2 defensive mids at home - I miss them days too

Don't forget King at the back. It was a truly great time to be a Spurs fan.

I never disliked AVB before. I reckoned Redknapp was his own worst enemy (tax, media mouth and England) and I could see what the plan was intended to be with a new young manager who would develop a long term vision. Unfortunately he was an utter arse, it seems. Now it appears to be what Poch has been brought in to do and I have hope in our youthful team for the future, but... what a team we had...

To any player thinking of joining our Club: if you work hard for us, no other club will love you as much as we will! Just ask Raffa. ;)

If Levy had twisted instead of stuck at the height of that period we could have won the league.

The best stadium in world football is the least he owes us.

2011/12 season when we finished 4th...great season, definitely the best I've ever seen and probably the best I ever will (although hopefully not). I hate getting all nostalgic and "what if", but just imagine if Defoe's legs were about two and a half inches longer and that Capello never quit England...would we have won the league? At that moment, I wouldn't have bet against it (although we'd have probably ballsed it up somehow)

An amazing player to come at an amazing time.

The midfield 5 of that era could compete with any in the proud history of Tottenham.

The guy just oozed what Tottenham represented, flair, an arrogance in his play and a responsibility to entertain. We morally won all our games, we were never outclassed.

Then AVB happened and drained all the fun and fantasy that Harry had built......

A real shame, like most have said, 2011 was an important season, it was a shame we couldn't capitalize on the opportunity we had.

A Suarez or a Dzeko would have had us competing for the title for seasons to come.

Absoutly loved the guy. But his legs went towards the end of our time, and he couldn't manage 90 mins. He wouldn't survive 10 mins in Pochs system. We had a wonderful 2 years with him though.

Talking about Poch's system, and what VDV said about AVB; don't these young managers or coaches seem to be re-cycling what Alf Ramsey and Don Revie advocated decades ago? Sheer work-rate.

It was his girlfriend who got a new job and wanted to move wasn't it??

Now he's split from her isn't he??

Lesson to be learned.

That was his wife, not GF. But sadly, he didn't save their marriage. He admitted striking her and that led to divorce right a way.

A player you can actually call world class, his touch was magical. He could turn games around. The away game against Villa when Defoe got sent off.....wow, what a game he had.

Just imagine:

Eriksen - VDV - Bale all interchanging behind Hurrikane. With Modders and Sandro in behind.

Need some tissue now.

Sylvie Van der Vaart. It was his wife and I think she was suffering or recovering from a serious illness. She got a presenting job in Germany and as they were already having a tough time he decided that he'd go to Germany.

But as you quite rightly pointed out they are now divorced and he's with Khalid Boulahrouz's ex wife

That's the story. But that's clearly been expanded upon and confirmed what most knew - AVB wanted him out.
Most likely because he was a big personality.
