Fun fact:

2011-12 P W D L Record % Goals A GA Avg
With King 21 11 4 6 61.90% 25 1.19
Without King 17 9 5 3 67.65% 16 0.94
Total Games 38 20 9 9 64.47% 41 1.08

This is a paid fact brought to you by Database.

Even more fun fact!!

2011/12

King's doctor describes him as "superhuman" and a player that has "defied science". He has no cartilage in his left knee and there is no logic to how he has played for many years. In the second part of this past season, though, King's performance levels dropped alarmingly. He hurt himself in training over Christmas and, with the benefit of hindsight, he ought to have undergone his latest clean-up operation immediately; instead, he continued to give his all and waited until the end of the season to see the surgeon.

So Kings' injury caused his performance levels to drop considerably after Christmas.

Thanks for your stats though!!!!!

Was that in the 2nd half of the season where we lost 5-2 away to the scum and King was utterly battered?
That game, in my opinion, was the beginning of the end for him. I just saw a man that'd battled for years but was beaten that day.

All due respect to Ledleys knee but this thread is about Rafa and I miss him.

I know he's probably quite shit now but I'd still take him back even if was just modelling the shirt or serving the half time beers with the retards.

The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long - and you have burned so very, very brightly Rafa.

I'd have loved him back personally even if just for a couple of years & obviously he wouldn't expect to be a starter now but what a good option off the bench for last 20 of a game needing that special something to unlock a defence.
reasonable contract with reasonable wages & imagine the learning someone like Pritchard could get off of him too!

One of the most talented players I have ever had the privilege of watching and a leader who rises to the big occasions.

Ahhh, those goals! I always felt he'd score given the chance, and with Bale and Modric - even Pav and Crouch - we had a proper threat. It was an exciting team. Shame his legs couldn't last more than 60 mins by the end.

I think using this as a stick to beat AVB with is a little harsh. He even says in the article he was thinking of leaving because of personal reasons and it was being told he wouldn't be first choice that made the decision easier to make. It wasn't just AVB.
Saying he might have left anyway does not really excuse AVB for pushing him out.

No. It had everything to do with the manager concentrating more on talking himself up for England rather than actually achieving something.
If we are simplifying to one explanation or the other, King's injury is obviously the most significant. We did not play badly in most games and lost by fine margins. A fit King would have made the difference.

My memory of VDV leaving (through the blurry tears) were purely his decision due to his wife hosting a TV show in Hamburg and them having marital problems. He tried to save his marriage by moving to Hamburg and it was one of the few times people praised Levy for allowing him to leave.

There were even stories of him talking about his love for Hamburg before the season even started so I think it's stretching memories a little to place the blame at AVB's door (he did a lot of things wrong but this wasn't one of them)

The last Spurs shirt I purchased was the CL investec shirt. I got the CL badge put on there and VDV 11

Loved the man

Me too, I don't normally buy shirts but I had a sneaking feeling this was indeed going to be 'as good as it gets' and unfortunately that has proved right since :(

100% accurate.

Lots of people have memory problems or are passionately trying to re write history.

More than Half of that team have been relegated or retired since then.

Bollocks. To maintain the level of argument.

The point haul is a matter of record, but the performances for the most part were not shit. We just lacked that little bit extra that a fit Ledley would have given us. If Ledley had not picked up that training ground injury, there is no way that we would have finished below third.
