The fact is that as a club we are mentally too weak and fragile. How often do we crumble at the slightest hint of pressure? Its happened for years and is why there is the word "spursy". Its even laughed off after we piss away another lead or lose to the bottom club. Said with a knowing nod and a raise of the eyebrows "just spursy eh?"

Manager after manager, we see the same end product. We are experts of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

We have this excuse every week that may satisfy some by saying "we played well for X number of mins" or "we might have lost but we were the better team" and lastly the worst of all "yeah but against last years results we are a point up!". Bullshit.

All that matters are results and only winners recognise this. The old cliche about good teams playing badly and winning? Its true. But to delude ourselves and say its OK not to win as long as we play well doesn't sit well with me.

I don't doubt poch and he still has my backing, as do ENIC and Levy but the most important signing we could make is someone to make these talented players we have, believe and have some bollocks and fight about them. There's something about the club that turns clearly talented players into an absolute wreck.

The club needs a real kick up the arse and to rid ourselves of this inferiority complex we have. Maybe the quicker Lennon and his massive length leave, the quicker our lads can start being more confident?

We finished 5th last season in the most competitive league in the world.

Which is exactly my point! What was our target?

We are happy being the nearly men. Forget to dare is to do, our motto might as well be "ah well, never mind"

Some fair points there, I thought this was going to be a knee jerk thread but after reading it I don't think it is. I think this team is still in its infancy though so I'm willing to cut them some slack over these early games, I would kill to have a mid twenties Edgar Davids in the squad! I think we're missing a player like that, I'd even love to have him on the coaching team although he'd probably end up fighting Poch.

I happen to think that signings are exactly what we need right now to give us a boost.

If you start believing and using the "spursy" bollox then you're doing the job that the gooners and spammers wanted by starting it in the first place. All teams lose from winning situations, all teams have ups and downs.

We generally finish above where our wealth would have us in recent times, and we've winning games for losing positions and scoring late winners for fun in recent years.

Man up and accept that we're not owed any success just because we had a double winning team 50 odd years ago and us fans pay high ticket prices.

This is why I don't understand why we always go with "up and coming" managers. We need someone who is able to instill a winning mentality into the club. I want someone who has been there and done it and knows what it takes. That's the only way we will change as a club not with someone who has it all too learn.

You might be able to get away with it in a different league but not where we find ourselves. The leagur is too competive and we have at least 5 clubs with more financial clout.

When did I say we deserve success because we had a decent team 50 years ago or mention our financial status?

We've also lost 2 and even 3 goal leads for fun in recent years. We've almost pissed away cup finals at Burnley and Sheff Utd because we shit our pants, yes our quality shone through in the end but it shouldn't have ever got to that. We have a soft underbelly and it goes from the owner to the fans.

Its clear to see at WHL if we are 2 goals up and the opposition score. There's almost an expectation we will fuck things up.

I think we are going to have to get used to having nothing to shout about for a few years.

We need a real leader on the pitch!

This a million times. It's no coincidence that we first nearly broke into the top 4 with Edgar David's and then actually did it with Scott Parker. 2 heart on sleeve natural leaders. This is the type of player we should be looking for to make all the other "exciting" components knit together, young squad huge potential.
