So here we are again.

In a good(ish) position to get a Champion's League spot and in need of a striker.

Your move, Levy

if we can get benteke for the right price we should go for it. sometimes we forget the human factor in football players. look at vertonghen and see how much he improved after his long time friend join the club. the companionship, the friendship, chemistry of people whom you can connect or talk to plays a huge part in a work place.

even if its a school project, i've always been willing to work harder when im with my best friends or friends i enjoy working with. i can see benteke being much happier here with his belgian friends compared to being in liverpool.

benteke was very very good for aston villa. he was willing to run, strong, good at holding the ball, good in the air, good technique, he is a genuine kane 1 for 1 replacement without having to tweak the tactic.

against weaker cb you drop kane to number 10 and suddenly we become an insane aerial threat in set pcs with dier, toby, vertonghen, benteke, kane.

if kane is tired or in cup games we can field benteke and the team plays the exact same way

it would be stupid not to take him if hes available at the right price

I always thought Benteke was the wrong fit for Liverpool under Brendan and it seems under Klopp too. I think he is the wrong fit for us too coz I don't see him tracking back and pressing like Kane. I think he would be great in 442 system but not for us or so it seems.

He's a Heskey to someone's Owen. Just no-one plays with Heskeys or Owens anymore.

Thats interesting, as the radio commentary last night mentioned something of a return to / revival of 4-4-2.

I could argue that Deeney and Ighalo at Watford are similar to the Heskey and Owen set up. Deeney playing the muscle with balls for Ighalo to chase and shoot.

The problem in being welded to the one striker system is that now everyone knows how to play against it. If you are Barca with the likes of Messi, Iniesta etc you can play anyone anywhere and win. What we are seeing ... I mentioned this in another thread questioning if Poch should learn from others ... is that 'lesser' teams are beating 'top' teams using this tactic. The best exponents are Atletico Madrid who have won the league against the overwhelming might of RM & Barca. Now we are seeing Leicester and Watford use two strikers to devastating effect.

So for me Benteke would be good for us as he is a real goal threat, not just a back up player so giving us the option of playing two strikers.

I'm not too worried about Benteke's ability. His price, wage demands and injury record on the other hand......

We really should be looking at Batshuayi instead, (I'm sure we've had ITK on him at some point)

That's what everyone said about Marhez last year. Doesn't help when they play for a shit team

But he doesn't even start for them, he can't get in ahead of the prolific Papiss Cisse....

Also comparing with Mahrez is drawing complete false equivalence, Mahrez looked good in a poor team last year as did Vardy. Mahrez and Vardy have stepped up a gear and the rest of the team have improved also, in fact there were many here who said that wanted Mahrez last year.

On the flip side Perez looks very average in an average team. Just because he scored against us that doesn't make him good. He is small, lightweight, not particularly speedy or hard working and his goalscoring record is poor. He is a poor man's Javier Hernandez, another player who also isn't that good.

Not unreasonable? Are you kidding? No way in hell should we pay £30m for him right now. Stop. We have a stadium to pay for. £30m fee with £100k/wk wages? For Benteke? Hell no.
Also IIRC he was shown around our training ground etc and chose them. I don't rate him and don't want him ( too injury prone). There are other players out there who would run through walls to join us and they are the ones I hope we will bring in.

I find it hard to believe Klopp is going to let Benteke go. Wasn't he strongly after him from Villa when he was at Dortmund? I swear there were quotes from Klopp saying he would be ideal to replace Lewandowski?

But yes I would absolutley take him if the price was right for all the reasons lol has pointed out.

As long as he doesn't do what he did with Suarez and send a pair of fuckwits like Sherwood and Ferdinandto scout one we should be OK.

Despite them being two completely different players only being compared because they are black, Belgian and physical imposing.
Or that they are both similarly aged, Belgian forwards playing in the PL who have a similarly physical way of playing.

Add black if you want, but it's you who added it Pal
