Manchester United target Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino as possible Louis van Gaal replacement

Old Trafford chiefs have been impressed by the Argentine, who has helped Tottenham above United in the Premier League table

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is high on Manchester United’s wanted list.

The highly-rated Argentinian impressed the United hierarchy with his calmness, dignity and coaching ability even before he joined Spurs 18 months ago.

And the way he has guided the Londoners into Premier League title contention with a minimum of fuss has only added to his reputation inside Old Trafford with Louis van Gaal’s future far from assured.

And as well as former Southampton gaffer Pochettino, Paris Saint-Germain boss and former Old Trafford star Laurent Blanc has also emerged as a viable target next summer.

United will have to act fast, however, with Blanc in talks with PSG over a new contract.

The Reds have lost ground on the top four and, after being knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage, Van Gaal could still be dumped in the summer.

If LVG does not finish in a Champions League slot or win a trophy having spent £250million, fans will want him out before his deal is up in 2017.

Just cannot see Pochettino leaving any time soon, even if Man U do come calling. He seems genuinely settled at Spurs, and into the longer term plan.

When was the last time a so called big club came calling for our manager? Things have changed, and I can't see Poch moving just yet. Certainly not to Utd, who really haven't transitioned well from Ferguson.

The only thing United can offer our manager or our players is money.

Fortunately we can still offer good wages (obviously not as good as United, but nothing to scoff at) while we've also built a unit that seems to understand where this team is at and how it can grow if they all stay invested together.

Why go to Utd other than for the money? For all the money they've spent their squad is a joke... full of over hyped and over paid wannabes and has-beens. They've no team spirit, dull to watch and look like 11 strangers on a pitch.

I guess he could work his magic like he did on Dier and convert Fellaini into a bin man or another career that isn't a professional footballer.

I guess that the papers think if he went, he'd take Kane and Dele Ali with him. Makes 0 sense, stay with a team you've built and eventually move for the title, or start from scratch at a team in decline.

It's obviously papers starting to ramp up pressure on LVG again it will never end till he has gone and a replacement found. Is it time to give Poch an extension and a pay-rise so these stories will stop for a while though?

They need a big name manager like guardiola... Poch might not survive after 1/2 yr given the ego of the players.

It's not and never has been about the money for MP. Had Southampton backed him he'd still be there now.

seems obvious (to me, at least) that they will go for Mourinho. Guardiola probably to Citeh.

Man Utd isn't just a football club, it's a brand - probably leaning more that way than the football side of things these days, looking at the money they spend on hype players and the commercial deals - so they need someone high profile, and Mourinho is the highest profile of all.

Problem with that is Mourinho play attritional and not attractive football. We have already seen one of their sponsors have a dig at their style of play, and it won't be long before others do too. Boring football is OK when you are picking up pots, but when you aren't those paying the money will think twice about doing so. Kids with no natural affinity to a club generally end up supporting the teams picking up the silverware, and yanited just aren't doing that anymore.

Man Utd would have to pay tens of millions in compo to bring Poch in.

Why spend that money on a relatively inexperienced manager who has never managed in the CL, when you could spend it on Guardiola?

I don't doubt that Utd have considered him, it would be remiss not to but that is all there is to it.
Pochottino will consider a move to a giant successful club one day, maybe we will be one by then, but not yet.
I am sure he wants success at Spurs first, not least because it would confirm his reputation and be a good career move.
His ambition is our best hope.

He's already said he's not interested in managing real Madrid. I'm not sure why it would be different for utd. He'll want to lead us out in the new stadium for sure.

But also aren't Charlton and Ferguson wary of Mourinho and his antics? He practically begged the club for a job only for them to offer it to the less successful Moyes. I'd imagine after his irrational behaviour at Chelsea this year, that reservation might be enhanced.
