I'm still of the opinion that he isn't even half as bad as many people seem to think.
.

This time last year (late November to early February) Faz and Vert had quite the partnership going. Cant remember the stats off the top of my head but we conceded limited goals for like 17/18 games.

Like you, I think he can be useful in a situation like we have where we're looking for a CB to step up. Wimmer hasnt put a foot wrong so he gets the chance to play but Fazio isnt as bad as people make him out to be.

Fazio would be superb for Chelsea or any other team that play a deep line.

Fazio for Cahill swap? Everyone's happy
Not me I think Cahills not really that good.

Maybe it's just because we tear him apart every time we play them.

Not to mention Cahill seems to be another who needs to play deep in order t be effective.

From the Spurspanyol guy:

A brief update on Fazio via @RarrochaR. Sevilla refuse to match Spurs' asking price & insist on loan + certain clauses to make it permanent.

Clauses include 'qualify for the CL'. Spurs told Sevilla they have other offers on the table but the player wants Sevilla move. @RarrochaR

I don't think anybody thinks he's a terrible footballer, or at least I don't, he just doesn't fit our style of play - high line and pressing. He seemed to have a good run with Verts in the middle of last season, but we hadn't fully integrated the pressing and high line tactics at that point. He just doesn't fit what we need at the moment.

When Fazio joined Spurs Pochettino was the coach. His general tactics must have been clear to Club management. If that's the case then why was Fazio purchased when he was clearly unsuitable?

Btw, who is going to be Toby back up?

I'd assume it's going to be Dier in the short term, especially since Bentaleb is starting to step into that holding role. Longer term, Veljkovic, if he can be convinced to sign a deal, or probably Carter-Vickers. That said, Ball making a success of his loan spell may bring him into the mix.

I'm not completely sure of this, and don't feel like taking the time to look for it, but I thought I remember one of the ITK's saying that the first summer Poch was less involved with the incomings as he was still determining who he thought would make it and who he needed to get rid of. There were a few positions we were short on, and so the "transfer committee" filled those positions. As I said, I am not sure about this but I thought I remembered hearing that. If not, I agree that it makes his purchase that much more questionable.

Fazio was a cheap alternative for Mateo Musachio.

He had a well publicised buyout clause of £8m and he was brought in 5 days before the window shut.

Very different CB to Musachio and was cheap and available.
