Weird one. We might need Fazio in the coming months due to Vertonghen injury leaving us thinner at the back, but shouldn't need him beyond that... so we loan him out now but have to take him back at the end of the season? :/

We don't need him, Poch has more faith in Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Fazio will not cover Vertonghen as he is a RCB, while Vert is a LCB. Wimmer covers Vertonghen, while Dier covers Alderweireld.

We won't need him, we already know he doesn't fit. We're just as well off with a youth option like CCV as we are with Fazio.

I know CB's can cover either spot, but they definitely favor the side of their dominant foot.

No more than a RCM and a LCM. Or a RCF and a LCF

Actually I'm right footed and tend to gravitate towards the left, as that gives me a greater passing options for diagonal balls (I can hit right or left, whereas being right-footed on the right makes it harder to pass right because of the natural bend from right-to-left)

CBs don't care about things like that (coming from a CB who has played at a high level). It's a FM invention

Hmm.....maybe you want to ask our CBs? I have not seen Fazio played LCB or LB, same as Alderweireld (he plays RB for Belgium). Has Vertonghen played RB or RCB before? I don't think so. He also plays LB for Belgium. Its the same for Wimmer, LCB or sometime LB for both Koln and Austria.

Maybe, just maybe that the Club is blessed with having the same number of Right-Legged player as with Left-Legged player (primary/stronger leg) at both CBs and FBs position in the first team now? So if the first team have these options, why would they want to play CBs "out of position" ? Im sure in recent years the Club scouted Wimmer and Davies to play in the left defensive position. And if i remember correctly Fazio was brought in coz he can also cover RB.

Btw, are you a right-legged player? Was your CB partner also a right-legged player. Maybe the team that you were playing was not as blessed as Spurs right now?

I think given Pochettino's system, whereby the fullbacks are pressed higher up the pitch, and the DM drops in between the centre backs to almost make us back 3 as the centre backs push a little wider to close down the space where the fullbacks would normally be, there is more relevance to them being in their natural side. Hence Wimmer and Vertonghen have experience of playing LB aswell as CB, likewise Alderweireld has experience at RB, as does Dier who currently deputises for Toby.

I agree. I come from the centre half/centre forward/inside right era and get discombobulated by these FM terms. Honestly, I think these forums are over-populated by FM "experts" rather than real football people and I have a higher regard for those who talk less in acronyms and more in terms of a player's quality. Not sure that Mike England saw himself as a LCB or RCB. He was more concerned with marking the centre forward out of the game and giving him a good thwack now and then.

I started my career as a winger, but was later moved to CB when one of our CB were injured. I don't know why the manager thought it was a good idea, since I was very young and slender at the time. I was not the good in the air. I guess he wanted some pace and agility, since the other defenders had the turning circle of a tank and the pace of a sloth (like Mertesacker). Nevertheless, I played both as RCB and LCB, and in the beginning it was much easier for me to play as a RCB since I'm right footed. But when the injured guy came back, I was forced to play as a LCB. I got used to it and played very well, but it took some time.

From my experience, left footed central defenders are the ones that are more concerned about what side of a central partnership they play. Perhaps it's because there are so few left footed players, that they in youth football have gotten used to play as the left one, while a right footed player is likely to have experience on both sides.
