Why pay 5M now when he can be had for less in the summer?
We won't be guaranteed to get him, a club outside of England can sign him on a free before we even get chance to speak to him and even if we did manage to sign him in the summer, the other clubs interest will push up the signing fee and his wages, so would probably end up costing more in the long run.

There's something I can't quite understand.
If we are willing to finish the window without signing a striker, why don't we still sign Dembele and loan him to Fulham like they want?
It makes no sense

I agree. I see it that we have someone else in mind

There were reports earlier in the window that Dembele will refuse to go back on loan if he signs elsewhere. Not sure how true they are though.

I find it amazing how most clubs can close deals within a matter of days without any problems but with Spurs they are long drawn out and in some cases a medical gets done only for the deal to collapse after. I think the Son deal is the only one in recent time which broke in the press but was completed quite quickly thereafter.

It really does make sense, why pay £6m now for the privilege of not getting him until the summer when we could just get him in the summer for a fraction of that? Fulham won't get much from a tribunal will they? They signed him 3 years or so ago so they've not invested that much in his development, he's clearly aware of our interest and so if he really wants to play for the club then he'll wait until he's spoken to us then to decide who to sign for.

I see absolutely no benefit of paying Fulham just to loan him back.

I could still see it happening with the loan back late on once we know we are 100% not bringing anyone else in.

Exactly what I said in the ITK thread, it's really baffling.

Why didn't you say earlier mate?

Look, the ITK thread is where people who are "In The Know" share info about possible targets, and then the members of SC all discuss that info & the merits of it.

You're welcome (y)

We are obviously confident he'll come to us in the summer so if we can't take him now why waste the money.

If the ITK was correct and we ever wanted him. As you say IF we did want him, and IF Fulham would let him go for 5m, it makes no sence to not do the deal now. So if it doesn't happen it makes me wonder about the accuracy of the ITK?

It's been said hundreds of times on here - it's because you're following the transfers so closely on here so it seems to take longer. I doubt you're going on other clubs supporter forums and following their transfers blow by blow - and if you are there is something mentally wrong with you.

Do you now see the benefit of when we did the same with Deli Ali?
