Dissapointing but not unexpected that we didnt back up the striking dept but we have to assume the club know better than any of us.
Although i still cant see kane going through until the end of the season injury free, he is bound to pick up a knock which will leave him out for a while which leaves us with son and chadli.

son and chadli aren't exactly bad back up though. For a team that plays a loan striker we are fine.

Just really dont understand why cant we identify a striker for 7 month.
I think our standards have got more precise.
We were never going to buy or loan a stop gap striker if he does fit with MP 's philosophy. Buying someone in Jan is always difficult.
I think and really hope MP is here for a long time and a good time.

To qualify as a really good window for us we have to first and foremost keep our best players - mission accomplished. I think that the club is generally very happy with the squad as it is. We have team harmony (not to be taken for granted) and the youngest squad in the league. I read somewhere on here someone say that if you don't strengthen by buying, you weaken. In most cases yes but as our squad is so young (and it is being coached well) then it will just get better. In two years time we will have a genuine shot at the title with this lot of we keep them together. So new contracts for the likes of Dembele and the others signed up recently are the most important thing. The general consensus on here was that this season we would do well to get top 6. On that basis we are having a fantastic season so lets chill, see where we end up and enjoy the next two/three seasons at least, moving into our shiny new stadium with some fantastic players who have matured and developed into a top class team.

Crystal ball time, but....

In 2 years time, pep is settled in at city and has spent a billion in his first 18 months in charge.
Mourinho has spent 500 million at United and they've just won the FA cup the season before.
Chelsea are looking for a new manager but have spent 200 million rebuilding.

Lord knows where that other lot will be, or Liverpool with klopp.

If we keep net spending our way through to the new stadium, some of the players we have now will leave in that time.

Orrrrr,

We could have looked where we are now, looked how close we are to a potential title tilt this season and given it a shot. Which is what's so frustrating. We're close now and key rivals are weaker this season than they've been in years. No one is suggesting we do a Leeds, but for 6+ months we've known where we're short. But instead of giving it a go, we're trotting out the new 5 year plan, or 2 years in this case.

Audere est Facere, indeed.

If you think the answer was Berahino or Dembele that's laughable.

I've just noticed it was deadline day yetserday (I don't watchich TV and have a pretty busy schedule). The fact haven't been glued to the TV or consuming every little snippet of info tells the story loud amd clear. We don't NEED anything! Extra back-up is never without use; however, the right player at the right price at the right time is our new philosophy and the evidence thus far is it works. We haven't achieved this season with the signing of loads of players or names, rather a couple of good considered additions to a squad which has dveloped. MP's biggest achievement is getting the dressing room right and hetting players with character. If he hasn't identified anyone in January who fits into that mould then that is good enough for me. Enjoy the game tonight!

Pity there wasnt a Saha or Nielsen about yesterday. But if we couldnt sign Dembele because of the loan back option, then why not announce in the coming weeks he has signed a pre contract?
Whilst I understand this window is very tough for club getting in players, and those that normally come in are very expensive, its a bit of a joke that we didnt bring in cover.
Dembele only emerged in the last few months, so who was Plan B or C if Berahino wasnt signed?
No doubt it takes three to conclude a deal, but really Levy and Mitchell have no excuses....
The only thing that will make this is ok, is Dembele announcement within the next few weeks, and early signing for the summer.

It's not a criticism of the players , or manager or Chairman.

But I don't think it's unreasonable for fans of the 13th most wealthy football
Club in the world to be able to identify a centre forward to replace the two who have left in the last 12-18 months.

It's naive to rely on Kane. No one wants a stop gap, but people are employed to scout and recruit the right players - so what have they been doing since August? Why do we agree Dembele and then suddenly find out Fulham want to keep him? Did we enquire about anyone else since the summer?

If January signings are no good/tricky (as many people on here keep saying) then we should have made damn sure we got one in the summer. There should have been a plan. Do we beleive that the other 19 prem clubs are just signing "anyone" without having their own plans and standards? No ofcourse not.

Yes we might get lucky and Kane stays fit, but for a club in its strongest league position for as long as I care to remember, and with the ambitions of Champions Lge success this an accident waiting to happen, and brings back all the "spursy" and "it'll happen" negative thoughts that I'm frankly sick of.

Poch and the team have done Brilliantly in the last 2 years, I love this team and how it makes the fans feel so proud to be Spurs, but I can't understand why we would leave ourself prone to a major problem if Kane gets injured.

Dembele can't sign a pre-contract with an English club till the beginning of June (though he could with a club abroad from the beginning of January)

Or look at like this...
Did anyone buy a striker backup this window?

Stoke - probably a first choicer
Everton - Yes

Andddddd the list stops.
Agreed, Ground, Vardy, Rooney (well maybe)... These are all players that if they were to be injured their clubs have virtually no backup for.

I think we will be OK.

Wow - Stoke buy Imbula for £18.3m, Newcastle buy two players over £12m and bid £21m for Bera, Middlesbrough buy Rhodes for £9m.

I think it's clear that the modern equivalent of "doing a Leeds" is spending over £60m on each player and giving them £200k a week rather than spending £20+ mill on a young striker.

there are actually some sensible people on here for once. i dont think its a case of the money not being there, i think this is completely about squad harmony and getting the right person at the right price. they wernt available, move on. Guessing we will get MD2 in the summer for nothing, no biggie. I dont think SB is a good fit for us at the moment, we dont need players like that. we have just spent the last 2 years getting rid of bad eggs. i for once completely trust what the management are doing

that said.... Harry 100% turns his ankle tonight

All this 'what if' Kane injury talk...first of all I really don't like it so please stop..

Secondly, given our high energy style of play, pochs want for conditioning and tough training regimes it is far more likely, as klopp has found out, that new players not used to this regime would probably injure themselves. Not kane. Leaving us exactly where we are now. Especially in the case of a non match fit berahino or an apparently slightly work shy dembele.

Basically if we'd have signed one of those strikers track record shows Poch probably wouldn't have played them For at least a month or they wpuld have been out with a hamstring injury. If they did. Far more probable than Kane getting injured, unless a freak occurs.

I believe Poch knows what he wants and what he is comfortable with at this moment given his bigger picture- everything will be considered.

Anyways time to forget about the sensationalism of the transfer windo and focus on the important bit of football- the game tonight.

So... COYS!

With the Townsend sale we took the net transfer title for a fifth consecutive window.

We are top of the (net transfer) league say we are top of the (net transfer) league

What's been the constant message from Pochettino this window...?
That he's happy with his squad, and would only add the right players if they became available. Ok, fair enough. I actually applaud the guy for being so decisive and driven.
The onus is now on our scouting network to find players of the right calibre, who are available, and within budget.
Wimmer's signing last summer shows it is possible.

I'm actually positive about the remainder of the season. Happy with the manager we have, and he's happy with his squad. Let's get on with it. Opportunities for Carter-Vickers, Winks, Onomah and Oduwa to step up.

Just dipped in here again expecting WW2. Have the one or two nasty people gone yet? At least we have tonight's match to concentrate on. What will be will be I guess. Same old positive spin and same old negatives.
