Is there a "Who do we need to buy in the summer" thread yet? Without creating one I'd be really interested to hear peoples thoughts.

I rather wait to the summer as of right now there are a few too many variables in play - i.e Ball and CCV may develop into competent EPL CB which means there is no need for CB reinforcement; Oduwa could turn ready for EPL footy, which means he can cover for Lamela. If Rico Henry keep improving, it may be worthy a punt, etc etc.
Apart from a CF back up I see no urgent need to bring in any other player - yet I want Spurs to keep an eye on "potenial" targets - whether "ready made" or not...

There's the spurs scouting thread I suppose. Not entirely sure we need to buy anyone though. Striker excluded.

Problem is that it might be very dependant on where we finish.

What i wonder is if, which he hopefully will, we get CL, will Levy splash a bit more cash on a big name player or will we just hold out for next season with the team with have and maybe bring in Dembele, or someone of his stature, to come in as a back up striker. I guess nobody knows what next season will be, but sometimes one likes to contemplate such things as it been a good long while since we had CL. I also fully expect the PL to be a lot tougher next season then it has this season.

I don't understand this obsession with net spend and how it's used as an indicator of ambition (lack of). End of the day, we are above several vastly higher spenders with far greater resources (rich owners, stadiums) in Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea, just behind Man City and Arsenal, 5 points off the top and have a squad (not team, squad) made up almost exclusively of international footballers in their prime or younger. We have the best goal difference in the league, the third best attack, the best defence and continue to keep our key and most coveted players on long contracts (that's not cheap you know).

Absolutely spot on!! I often have to question whether I support THFC, or Net Spend FC, as some on here much prefer to obsess over the latter, rather than the former.

WTF do people give a shit about the finances for anyway? That's of no concern for any of us, so leave that for Levy to fucking deal with, and try to get behind the head coach, his ideas & his players. It's amazing what a bit of 'support' can do to a team.

If we're still paying him, how is he eligible to play for Palace against us in the upcoming FA cup tie?

part of the deal when we terminated his contract....just like City subsidized his wage when we bought him from them.

Spurs were so keen to get rid of him that we agreed to pay him while he looked for a new club, and when he found a club they would take over the majority of his wage

This is so unacceptable, the only signing we have made is Shilow Tracey who can't even get on the bench for a non-league team. Shambles. We need to get some new scouts in this is beyond a joke now.

Fucking hell. If you're like this now, I hate to think how unbearable you're gonna be when you hit puberty.

So what you are saying is that despite our only forward Kane scoring almost half of our goal tally so far, it won't make a difference to our challenge for top 4 if he gets injured? Looking at those stats, I would have thought scoring only half as much in the rest of the season will see us drop to mid table.

And if City lose Aguero? If Arseanal lose Giroud? If United lose Rooney? If Leicester lose Vardy? If Liverpoo lose.... Oh, they've got nobody to lose, shame :cautious:..

Anyway, the point is obvious. We're no different to every other bloody team. They have one guy who scores the majority of goals but, unlike those other teams, we have more goals from the rest of the team/squad.

This place is like a Joan Collins impersonation emporium!

All of those teams have reserve forwards who, while not as good as the star, are still specialists in the position. Who do we have as a backup if Kane gets injured? Son playing out of position is all I can see.

I don't see why this "specialist in the position" is material. Do you watch our games? Take yesterdays win at Norwich how often was Kane on the wing cutting in and shooting. We don't have a CF as a specialist we have 4 forwards/strikers who interchange with each other and also press together.

In what way? I think we have a huge advantage going into next season, if we can keep this squad together. Chelsea, Man U and Liverpool will all be in transition. Who exactly are Chelsea and United going to get to manage them that is going to be an instant hit? Kloop has a massive task this summer in getting rid of the overpaid players he doesn't want, in order to make room for players he does want. I very much doubt Leicester will have the same run they had this season, I think bar Arsnal and City we could well be favourites for the title given the settled squad that should be a year better in terms of development and experience. Of ourse this all depends if we finish the season as we are doing.

This was very evident yesterday he was on the flanks, left and right, with Son up front.

Really couldn't disagree more about Austin. The last thing we need is to add a player who doesn't fit Pochettino's plans just because

Not only that, but he showed last night why he wouldn't have been a wise choice for us. Injured!! Happens way too frequently with him, and there's no way we could've depended upon him if Kane was to pick up an injury. Chances are Austin would be in the injury room waiting for company already.

Son plays out of position for his national team, too. Funny how he seems to keep scoring when he's made to shoulder that unfortunate burden

I'd take Son over Ulloa, Bony or Joel Campbell any day!

Who really takes any notice of them :D, City certainly will be favourites but I have seen nothing from Liverpool under Klopp that has me worried.

Not sure who these bona-fide back up strikers are you refer to at our rivals...?

The other point which i feel is relevent, is that maybe we are becoming one of those teams who create opprtunities for the striker regardless of who is playing there! Yes, it is a massive bonus having Harry up top, but as has been pointed out already, in the games we played without Harry we have actually scored quite a few and played well.

All in all, im sure everyone here would be very happy to have 2 players like Harry to rotate between. But that, in reality, is very rare and difficult to maintain.

In fact, fuck it! i'm gonna say it - I'd rather have Son up front than Berahino!!

All the players we went for last summer Martial, werner and berahino are not out and out strikers. They can play there but also on the wing. As can Son.

I doubt we will buy an out and out striker. As long as we have Kane.
