After seeing what everyone else is gonna be doing. I really think we need to make this window count with the lure of champions league for what it's worth. Last time we got vdv but even then we didn't make the most of it. But if we only get Jansen then I'd trust poch a hell of a lot more than old arry when it comes to transfers that's the right move

Janssen is the absolutely perfect striker for us. He's a complete Kane clone, who'd be happy mostly starting from the bench for a year or two

A big name like Batshuayi will just cause us a 'Rooney problem'. Not good enough to start in his preferred slot, but too big a reputation/price tag to settle for bench time, so levered in somewhere that doesn't suit the team or player.

1. he isn't a clone replicant
2. how can you just assume that about Batshuayi?

Fee agreed and player in London suggests it's pretty advanced.

This sounds like another completely under the radar coup, like Son and Njie were last year.

Lots of false leads fed out, and then we pop up and complete a deal for someone from leftfield within hours of it breaking. I.e behaving very professionally.

Definitely does seem to be the way we are doing business these days. Which isn't great for us ITK junkies...

Totally agree. It's recipe for squad disharmony.

I don't buy the line "we'll have loads of games next season, so need 3 strikers".

Domestic competitions don't start until around xmas time and inevitably Kane will be playing as first choice in the CL and prem games. So when will the second and third choice strikers play before then? It's not like the Europa where you can get away playing a weakened team until the latter stages.

Even when we start domestic cups, if we draw Arsenal early on(like we did this season) then there will be calls to play our strongest side and if we rotate and lose Poch will be accused of not taking the comp seriously again.

Squad management is a tricky business. It's really not a good idea to overload any position because it can cause bad feeling and after we've worked so hard to build such a harmonious squad it would be ashame to put that at risk.

I think Poch very much favours a tight 22 + a couple of academy kids. I don't think there's any chance of us signing more than 1 forward player this year.

If this Janssen deal happens, I very much suspect Batshuayi was just a line being fed out to get people of off the scent. Poch uncharacteristically naming him makes me think that's even more the case.

i don't think Batshuayi is a big name, i suppose his pecking order in the belgium national team lies behind lukaku, origi and even benteke?

Sebastian Rode, who is joining Dortmund, has said that he had an offer from us on table. would have liked to see him at spurs, way better footballer than wanyama IMO
Dortmund doing frenzied business. Bit like us before Bale sale. Makes me thin the PEA deal to City is defo on...

I actually think it could be a case that we've put out info on Janssen to force Marseilles hands in negotiations with Batman.

I agree with the rest of your statement though.

Batshuayi is joint first in goals off the bench (9) in Europe's top 5 leagues. Not sure why he'd suddenly be a prima-donna that demands to start.

What I like about Batshuayi is he can offer something different to Kane (a bit more pacey and unpredictable) whilst also being able to cover for him, we need a plan B off the bench as much as we need cover IMHO.

Good to see it's all gone quiet on the Beharino front. I was getting worried we'd waste £20m+ on someone we don't need.
