Unsurprising that he has made that position his own for England, great player with the great attitude.

Any news on why he went down during the second half? He didn't receive treatment but it had me worried for a minute.

It really is rediculous that he couldnt get a call up for the u21 team a year ago. Now he is arguably alongside Rooney as the full England teams most important. Southgate really is a bellend

Oh and to those who last season said he couldnt be our playmaker.....
Doing long balls doesnt make you a playmaker, thats like saying gerrard was a playmaker

No just doing long balls doesnt make you a playmaker you are very much on point mr holmes. However, im guessing perhaps you only watched some highlight show or other because my two fully functioning eyes saw dier constantly being the guy smalling and cahill gave the ball to, if either full back came inside it was dier who they gave it to and he gladly popped it off to one of his team mates. That in itself could perhaps not deem him a playmaker, however, as the second half progressed he had more and more of the ball and his 15-20 yard passes into the feet of those in advance (not to the side i might add) really set the tempo. He also had the awareness to find himself in space on the edge of the area a number of times.
I mean come on if thats not playing the role of a play maker then they have been wrong about the likes of pirlo, xabi alonso etc all this time

This from the article @Flashspur posted:

'Eric Dier took on more of a playmaker's role from his deep-lying position against Slovakia. Dier completed 93.1 percent of his 102 passes, stroking the ball around with poise and confidence.'

shame sturridge and vardy couldnt finish these gilt edged chances, criminally bad at close range.

93,1 pass completion with the passes he was playing is actually Xavi'esque. He was finding players in between the lines with a impressive consistency.

The way he's developed in the last year is absolutely insane.

Yeah i think it is fair to say that he maybe now the first name on the team sheet? Both for us and england. He really is developing into a fine young player. Really impressed with him last night.

It strange to think, not even a year ago, come late july, Most spurs fans were collectively shitting themseveles that Poch tried him out at DM and thought he was delusional even attempting it. What a year does!

Someone, please source a graphic to prove to my Arsenal-supporting friend that he actually played plenty of forward passes, contrary to what this rose-tinted buffoon is claiming.
