It's simply because England do not have the quality of players the media like to think they do - England produce technically inferior players to the majority of European (careful) countries. The reason for this has to be down to the coaching from early ages up and a complete lack of focus on U21's, etc. I honestly think that if you take an average eastern European international player (or virtually any other European region) you will see a technically skilled better player than virtually any England international. Every now and again England produce a player that has decent technical ability but they are surrounded by 9 or 10 others who can barely make a 5 yard pass.

Its true now and it's been true for the past 40 years.

I`m not convinced by this. But, I`m sure you have some good points. But, If you think about it, Iceland actually won today. They have poor players, but are well-organised with probably the right mentality. Italy have three fantastic defenders, but the rest of the players are nothing to brag about. Serie A is zero to what it used to be, and many of the italian players play for mid-level clubs like Torino etc. Still they beat Spain today. Just because they are well-organised and have the right mentality.

England might not be famous for its well-organised people in the same way as the germans, but the italians are certainly not famous for it at all, but still they are organised on a football pitch. So, there`s no reason why the english team can`t be organised and expoit its potential fully. History has also shown that there`s nothing wrong with the mentality of the english people. And your players play in PL with great players from around the world. Actually some of the best players in the world dominate in PL..

Well, well.. What team will you english support now at the rest of the tournament? Wales?

Surprised there were no shouts on the pundit-ing after the game re: the absence of the likes of Drinkwater and Townsend. Plenty of criticism but some of the most obvious seemed to be missing.

Dixon's analysis was as usual the best for me. Picks up on the most basic levels of errors and points out how bad it is that they couldn't be fixed even after half time.

I'll support France because of family ties. I'd support The Netherlands if they'd qualified as its where i live. I never support the other so-called home nations. It's such a misnomer.

Roy Hodgson's reaction to the game was particularly irritating. Don't get me wrong, i didn't expect him to self-flagellate but little resignation speech, with a brief addendum barely acknowledging the rubbish that we just witnessed barely did it for me.

Even if we didn't have the best technical players it doesn't even matter. You still have a plan that maximises what you have and we didn't.....that was pretty much your point i think.

Hodgson's name is going to go down in infamy I think. If he takes another club job in England i'll be surprised, he'd be roundly booed and abused pretty much every game. I think he's finished which I guess isn't a hard conclusion to reach.

It's amazing to me how bad professional footballers are at doing basic stuff, Kane and Rooney couldn't even control the ball yesterday, the passing all round was woeful. And it's just little things like not putting enough weight on it, playing just behind the player so they have to check their run slightly. It's a massive problem when trying to break down an organised defence.

Tactically Roy was a disaster, persisting with 433 when he took 1 wide forward was a joke.

England have a massive problem who to bring in now, none of the current English managers are good or experienced enough. I like Howe but no way should he get the job after 1 epl season. Southgate the frontrunner? Just lol

Benítez or Pellegrini the only viable candidates for me.

The fact that, ln one form or another, the FA and Hodgson had clearly prepared his resignation speech before the game says it all about the mentality in the camp. Shambles.

I'm sure Southgate will get the job next but what's the point? The england job isn't like a club side where you're trying to build something, it's a four year project and then you quit or you're sacked. Get the best manager we can - Hiddink would do.

But you said get the best manager we can. That ain't Hiddink, not by a long way. Didn't he play a large part in the dutch failing to get out of their group?

The only English candidate with any real (footballing) credibility is Hoddle, but that's very unlikely, that would mean the FA actually showing some sense. If we go English, which IIRC is how the FA prefer to roll, then our next manager is probably going to be someone very underwhelming. Fat Sam, Pardew, someone like that.

Personally i'd go with Hoddle with Southgate alongside him with a view to him taking over in four years.

The FA have made noises about a new manager having recent PL experience, regardless of nationality. Pellegrini?

I said it last night but I'd Keegan it if the FA could tempt Bilic away from WHAM.

The also made noises about him being English. Which I really hope is true because if you were looking through the EPL right now, Poch's name would stick out like a sixteen inch cock on a dwarf........
