Portugal are the new Greece. Play shit football but keep on winning somehow.

ITV the entire game have had a love in for Portugal, really wanting them to win. Was really hoping Poland would make it through. Now I just hope Belgium batter them.

And, you know, the best player on the World.

I'm not talking about Jose Fonte.

I'd be more inclined to agree with you if you were.. ;)

CR7's fall from the 'world class' category couldn't be more perfectly demonstrated than his piss poor showing tonight.

OK he scores a lot in a Real side which plays for him but he's more an exceptional athlete than real footballing super talent these days.

Twas ever thus but the general football viewing community gets enamored with the shiny objects (goals) and his 'tekkers' (horribly uncoordinated step-overs done at a distance of 6 yards from a defender). Now that his speed is gone his value to a team is dropping precipitously and REAL would be wise to ship him to PSG for as large a bundle as possible. That is unless they own part of his image rights as you can always count on the ignorance of the masses to keep buying the brand-bullshit they are selling, backed by penalties and hat-tricks in 5-0 blowouts.

He had a better than 1 goal per game ratio last season, likewise in the 5 previous. How can you claim he's now not World Class due to one poor Euro's campaign? (Where he has still scored 2 incredibly well taken goals).

The fact is, if he had more than one decent player around him in the Portugal setup, he'd be knocking them in.

Ronaldo isn't the only star or great player that hasn't lived up to expectations this tournament.

Think that proves to not judge any player by this tournament alone.

Erm they have to get past Wales first which is by no means a given.

You English would do really well to learn some humility.

I'm not jealous at all. I just detest the guy.

This. To think anyone with a modicum of taste and self respect is ... jealous... of Cristiano white jeans, 4k wristwatch on display, gelled hair, gold bathtub fittings, del boy decor Ronaldo , is trayz uncroyarbla. He even dribbles in a nouveau riche way.

Whenever he plays, and does his usual jerky, beached dolphin impression of a footballer coupled with screaming at his teammates for 90 minutes, the most common piece of commentary is 'he's playing well below his usual standards.' One day, someone will find fossil evidence of those usual standards.

Perhaps all the people in whatever country you're from make retarded lazy generalisations too? 'Us English' have largely been self-deprecating and critical of the national team, and sporting culture in the uk, wishing well on the home nations (I'm supporting Wales) while receiving nothing but petty embittered comments in return, from all and sundry.

Reductive and facile argument indicative of a very superficial understanding of the game with no regard for the intricacies and nuances therein.

Fact eh? (Is that you Rafa?) I believe you meant "the supposition is..." as I do not accept your line of reasoning as "fact", necessarily, nor would I accept its conclusion as supportive of any nebulous "world class" status. Yes, your boy scores goals, many of them. But he doesn't score those loads in big games and never has consistently. In the classicos he has stunk up the joint. In the CL finals he has stunk up the joint. In the world cup he has stunk up the joint. In the euros he has stunk up the joint.
There was an analysis of his goals this year in regards to the points they won for Real and the result was negligible. He is, has been, and will continue to be a narcissistic show pony fawned over by longing fanboys disquieted by the novel feelings his mere presence on the screen arouses in them.
On the field however he will remain easily marked out of games by competent right backs save for his diving, pens, and fixtures against the respective "washington generals" of the Spanish league sent out in pro forma compliance of FIFA game regulations.
