Then and than should NEVER be confused.

I saw a post on FB once where a homophobic guy was being wound up by his mates and his response was along the lines of 'I'd sooner lick a piece of shit then lick your cock'. You can imagine the responses...

What I mean is that they are not actually a race, are they.

In fact the only race they have, is to see who is the quickest to get their giro cashed.

Everton fans are warming up nicely:

-------------------------------------
This is the last team I wanted to play on day one. In terms of performances, they were probably the best team in the league last season. We could have easily gotten into champions league in Roberto's first season were it not for a few mistakes, and Spurs could have easily won the league had they started and finished the season a little better. If there is one thing we know about Spurs, it is that they can dominate a game and produce absolutely nothing in the end. Our squad is not in the best place mentally, so let us hope that somebody can come up with the miracle and get us a result.
------------------------------------
Surprised by the optimism. They're squad is better than ours as it stands. We'll be lucky to draw this one I'm afraid. All that said, 3-1 Blues.
------------------------------------
Nice to see you back Chico.
I'm feeling cautiously optimistic and so think we'll only loose 2-0.
Really hope i'm wrong but I feel it's going to take a good while to get rid of Roberto's influence on the team's mindest especially since we haven't changed the starting eleven very much. Koeman will eventually change things but we're going to have to be patient methinks.
------------------------------------
We've beat better teams than Spurs at Goodison with worse teams than we have now.
Hopefully Harry Kane's on set pieces and we win 2-1
------------------------------------
On the basis that Spurs are only 69% match fit and rusty and several of their players are still having nightmares involving Vikings, then I'm going for a gritty 1-0 home win.
------------------------------------
I really don't know about this, but I'm heartened by the fact that Spurs, while good on their day, are chokers.

Think back to their weak attempt to catch Leicester a few months ago and getting overtaken by the Arse.
------------------------------------
Spurs win 2 nil, first boos of the season in the 14th min.
------------------------------------
We might have had a better transfer window than Spurs
------------------------------------
Spurs are a dirty dirty team. We picked up 47 yellows last year to their 72. Martin Atkinson the ref, was the forth most likely to give a card in the league last year, the ONLY red came after two bookables and it wasnt even a sending off (simpson vs arsenal).
When he fails to send off walker tomorrow after gerry or kev running rings around him, im going to be irate.

Did you watch the video? skip to 12:50 and 14:00 he has us for first this season

Yes, Clausde is positive about us and Ty ridicules his opinion on the basis that he (Claude) said we would win the league in conversations played on ArseAnal TV last season, and he was wrong. But he didn't say we would win the league last year, he said, we had a chance (and more chance than ArseAnal). And he was right on both counts. So Ty is belittling his opinion about us this season by mis-quoting Claude, effectively.

It is like if, right now, I said the league too very tight to call and any one of the 6, or another rogue element, could win it. And then next season you randomly belittled an opinion of mine opinion on the basis that United, or Citeh, or Chelsea, or Us, etc., etc., didn't win the league this year and I said they would. It's a nonsense, all I said was that any one of six, and maybe a Leicester-esque rogue element. Ty (the twat) either hasn't understood what Claude said, or is deliberately misinterpreting what Claude said.

From Toffeetalk - pre Stones sale .... :D

First game of the season and anything can happen. With Spurs having a good midfield I can see us playing 3-5-2 and packing the middle of the park but I'd rather play 4-3-3 with rom,Kev and Gerry causing havoc. I expect steck,Coleman, stones,Mori, holgate,Baines, gueye,Ross,Barry,Gerry, rom.

Hope we get off yo a good start and the crowd get behind the lads. U can't help but get excited first game so gonna go for hard fought 2-1 late winner from Kev

thanks for starting this i was on vacation. here's what i think we'll see
Stekelenberg
Coleman Stones Mori Baines
Gana Barry
Gerry Barkley Mirallas
Lukaku

I think that will be the line-up.

Also think it'll end 0-2

1-4 just like at the start of the 84-85 season. Hopefully followed by us finishing the season in the same place we finished the 84-85 season.

i think it will be a draw. first match of the season everyone is tentative and getting back into the business of football.

From what I have seen so far I don't see it ending well. Spurs still look pretty lively in pre-season and well... we don't!
I think it will be important for Koeman to get off to a good start but I must admit I do fear a tonking.

Dreading it

Remember how we beat Southampton 3-0 away early last season? Slow start appears to be Koeman's trademark.

I wouldn't be surprised if we do Spurs. It's the Everton way really, we will do Spurs, get our hopes up and take 2 points for the bext 3 or something.

For me though the team mentioned before has 4 match winners in it for me ( Rom, Ross, Kev and Gerry ) we keep it tight at the back and I have every bit of confidence that those 4 will make something happen.

I'm travelling again, but not sure if I'm upset to miss the arse-raping we're going to see at Goodison....

I wish I was as confident as they are pessimistic, but then, I am a Spurs fan!!

Ouch. Long list of folks who may need to brush up on their grammerz...

;)
Not to be a pedant but his statement was indicative not subjunctive so "wasn't" is correct. I'll make sure they hold a spot for you in the 'grammerz' class. But truthfully, I think both are acceptable in modern spoken english.

Whether correct or not, I'm just glad we've got the thread back on track, that's the important thing here ;)
