I reckon Daniel Levy would prefer to finish just outside the European places so he doesn't have to pay for flights around Europe. :wacky:

He'd also save on the leccy bill as he wouldn't have to floodlight the stadium every other week...

It seems there are some loons who don't understand the above. Let me put it more clearly. Levy wants top 4 but he doesn't want to pay the price it needs to maintain a top 4 position. Every club wants to be in the top 4, that's obvious, but it's more expensive to stay in top 4 than Levy is prepared to pay.

Look if Levy could some how know that we would be able to make top 4 every year if we spent more money he would do it, because the financial gain of qualifying is likely to offset extra squad investment. The problem is spending more money does not guarantee champions league football. Also financial fair play means we cannot afford the wages given at clubs like Arsenal, Man utd etc, until we further increase our income. Building a new stadium is a start.

Thanks for the facts Daniel, much appreciated.

I agree.

I'm fairly certain that, as a Spurs fan, Daniel Levy would love to see us win the Premier League. However, as a businessman and a fan in charge with making sure the club stays afloat, is competitive and appeases shareholder interests, he knows that simply splashing the cash is neither a guarantee of CL football nor of a trophy.

But he probably sees the model at Arsenal as the most viable. A model that should not be reliant on CL qualification (through increased corporate and individual ticket sales revenue and bigger sponsorship) but one that can survive in spite of an absence in the CL. Staying in the CL with a new stadium will probably help us in the transfer market but absences won't consign us to the fate of Leeds Utd.

I suspect he wants us to be in a position whereby we have a strong base from which to go for the title / titles but knows full well that in today's financial climate, without massive cash-injections (Man City, Chelsea ± Liverpool) using a spend-to-win tactic is not going to be successful. I also think once he feels he has taken us far enough (which may be the stage before winning lots of things but on a sound financial footing), he will step down / sell up so he can "enjoy" the supporting side again.

Is that what I as a Spurs fan want? Don't know. If we continue to progress from frustrating "nearly" men to regular top 4 positions and start winning cups, be back in league title chases then yes.

What shareholders? There's only two, no prizes for guessing who they are.

Yes, none now I suppose. I guess I referred to historical commitments (when they were still listed).

Also, I have always thought of Joe Lewis as less of a fan, more of a businessman who wants a return.

I've always had a suspicion that Levy doesn't want spurs to be a top 4 team. At least not yet, it's too early. We only made it last year because all the usual suspects grossly under performed. To be a top 4 team consistently is expensive, it would cost more than the 30 million or so you get for CL qualification, to stay there and maintain it. We all know that "expensive" would go against the grain with Levy. It may change at a later date but that remains to be seen.

EDIT: It seems there are some loons who don't understand the above. Let me put it more clearly. Levy wants top 4 but he doesn't want to pay the price it needs to maintain a top 4 position. Tin foil hats at the ready.

I reckon the only reason Levy has a son is because he didn't want to spend money on condoms... :sneaky:

(Am I too late with the Levy jokes?)

The only reason Levy is building a stadium is because he doesn't want to pay for the upkeep of White Hart Lane.
