I'm not being sarcastic. I mean it. I wish my bench had scored that well. Think about it logically ...
You can divide the players in the game in to 3 categories:
1/ The players in your 11 on the pitch. Mostly you want these to perform well. Not always though
. If a lot of players have your player in their team and have captained him and you haven't it might actually help you if he flops. Similarly if you only have a single defender from a team you might hope that team doesn't keep a clean sheet. For example I own Valencia but 80% of teams have at least one Man Utd defender. Many have 2 and some have 3. With the ownership that high it might be to my advantage that Valencia didn't keep a clean sheet.2/ The players not in your team or your squad. In FPL terms you want all of these to fail miserably, not play, get sent off, get injured or spontaneously combust.
3/ The players not in your team but on your bench. These are the same as the category 1 players. just a little less so. You want them to do well unless they are in a lot of other team's 1st 11. You benefit from them doing well indirectly. For a start their value is likely to increase rather than decrease if they had got injured or performed badly. That means you have a bigger budget to spend. Secondly if they are performing well you don't have to waste a transfer or take a hit getting them out of your team. Take for example Capoue. While you may wish he was in your team this week because he scored well the fact is that almost nobody actually had him in their playing 11. If they had then they've got a seriously unbalanced squad and aren't going to be your rival in the long term anyway. Therefore you are very happy he picked up 10 pts even though you chose not to play him.
