One of those things that sounds like a terrible indictment of the modern era, until you realise it already exists - think of all the Red Bull franchises, PSV etc, not to mention all the stadium sponsors...after a short time you forget it's a sponsor, it just becomes the name of the team. Granted, Burger King stands out a bit more than most, but they announced Bart Simpson as a new signing not long ago so it shouldn't be that big a surprise.

It is odd that the premier league no longer has a sponsor.
It is one of the best leagues in football and probably the richest and has great coverage all around the world including the US - you would have thought companies would be queuing up to be associated with it.

I think the foreign TV broadcasters prefer no branding so they can stamp their own sponsors all over the games without worrying about clashes. The amount they pay means they have quite a say in the matter.
It makes you wonder if they might demand the sponsorship comes off the shirts too in the future - that would be a great day.

So, there's a team out there actually called Hamburger and they choose to go for a pun instead.

God bless you, Burger King!

edit: scratch that, i gave them credit for St Petersburger King, but that honour goes to @Dirty Ewok - bless you, sir and apologies.

PSV are a bit different though as they were founded as the Philips factory workers' team. Similarly, Bayer Leverkusen were founded by workers of Bayer pharmaceutical company. Those names are a bit different from a modern sponsorship deal.
