This picture really gives you the reality of the size of the new stadium in comparison to the current stadium

My fave pic for that so far:

Sugar may have calculated back then that within the next 20 years every game from all the leagues would be live on the TV, so who exactly would be coming to a 50k+ stadium even if they built it.
In practice, increased coverage has increased the demand for tickets - who would have thunk it?

Sugar didn't get involved until much later (1991). The development of the West stand was under the old Tottenham board (Wale, Richardson & Cox) - and it almost bankrupted us - which is where Irving Scholar stepped in.

The West stand cost @ £4.5m (the budget was £3.5m), whereas similar constructions at Wolves (£2m) and Forest (£2.5m) came in significantly cheaper, the price we paid for several changes to the original design specifications.

It's interesting to note that in season 81/82 (when the new stand opened) our average attendance was 35,099, whereas Ar*enal's was a mere £25,493.

hertyid on coys: Boxes have already sold out 70% apparently. Although there are less boxes in the new stadium than the old one.
The focus is on the VIP seating which is like Club Wembley. Most of the cheaper seats 2500-2750+VAT have sold out. 3500 and upwards still have good availability.

For me free beer at HT and some sandwiches is basically pointless. I wouldn't make use of it. And there's no way I could drink 60 quid's worth of beer in 15 minutes. So it's not worth it.

ST prices will def increase substantially. Arsenal ST start at just over 1000 and go up to above 2000 (for normal seats). My mate pays 1380 for a pretty bog standard seat. I can't see WHL being any different. So 25-40% increase sounds about right*.

*This is based on the fact our VIP seats are almost identical to Arsenal.... 2900-5750 is their pricing band, and we are 3000-6500 (all inc VAT).

But Arsenal season tickets include 7 home matches in the Champions League and FA Cup, rather than 2 in any cup competition for us. That's already a 25% or so increase in the number of games included, and then you have to consider the higher average quality of the cup ones they get too.

I think it's pretty clear the board are going for money over fans in the new stadium. The ticket prices are set to be fundamentally extortionate.

To me a better strategy would have been to get the fans through the door the first couple of years, create the atmosphere, and then start fleecing people blind for ticket prices, but seems clear the fleecing will begin from the outset. So probably the only reasonable place to sit in the stadium will be behind the goal or at the very back of the upper tier.

And obviously the atmosphere is going to suffer massively because the only people creating any atmosphere will be at one end or too far away from the pitch to be heard.

If pricing goes up for normal seats, it will potentially backfire, we have the most expensive seats in the league when you consider that we have only 2 games included(tends to carling cup and europa league) as opposed to 7 extra games which is a mixture of carling cup and champions league matches

Not to mention the premier league bar sunderland have decreased their season ticket prices or frozen them. Us increasing the season ticket would work in the premier league but against the smaller teams, I wont be surprised to see a stadium with a lot of empty seats

Also Levy said before the reason for our high ticket prices was because we couldn't compete with the big clubs large stadium and the high prices helped us be more competitive on the pitch iirc

For info:
Nottingham Forest's 'Executive' stand and the 'Molyneux Street' stand at Wolverhampton Wanderers are almost identical to our 'West Stand'. The one at Wolves was the forerunner, swiftly copied and improved by the other two.

I woudlnt say forest is. Its more like Ewood Park, or the stand opposite Trinity Road at Villa. Wolves main stand is the same, except ours has double tier of boxes. ie unique. And kinda classy for its day

I don't think it is clear that the club has any intention of raising ST prices, I'm pretty confident that there will be very little increase for the standard tickets.

Does anyone have any views on what standard match day tickets are likely to cost, as a multiple of current prices? What happened at the Death Star, and is the likelihood that there will still be £30-£40 options?

If my ST goes up any higher I will have to just go for the first season and then give it up...

I doubt the club will let me move to a cheaper seat. Been trying for 10 years without luck!

Behind the goal and in the gods will be comparable. Anything with a decent view will be £1.5K minimum
behind the goals are where they want the atmosphere-makers to be, with the kop on the South stand and the away fans in the North stand, so encouraging the season ticket proles into those areas makes perfect sense for all.

You'll have to go on a guided tour the day before a game, sneak off from the tour group and lock yourself in the bogs.
