What about when he left Esponal or whatever other managerial jobs he has had?

I'm just interested due to China man's statement about poch being a man of honour

I know Wenger is famed for always seeing out any contract he ever signs and never breaking it

Has Poch done that? I'm assuming from your post that he was still contracted to Southampton when he came to us

I'm not sure how confident I would be about him wanting to stay if Barca made a serious move for him

I suppose it would depend how invested he is in our project vs how ambitious he is to manage at the top level at a club like Barca

I don't know if he's even on the radar of clubs like Barca but if he is my gut instinct would say he'd probably be very interested in the job
Pochettino's contract was terminated at Espanyol and as @thinktank posted a link to, Pochettino's loyalty was to Cortese and his project, which he always stated.

If Lewis sold Spurs and the new owner didn't keep Levy (and his plans) in his current role, then I think we would have a problem.

I don't think learning a new language has stopped managers moving to Barca or Real before lol

He was a loyal manager.

Giggs example is not comparable.
Don't think you can be called loyal. It was in his favour to stay. Never wanted to leave. Loyal is when you have better offers but stay to help the club, not yourself

I'd be surprised in all the time he was at United if none of the big guns offered him a better deal.

I think Fergie is/was much like Poch in his approach to building a long-term project and remaining dedicated to it as long as he is supported properly.

At the end of the day this is just a rumour from the Daily Star - there's no reason to take it seriously

I'm not even sure he'd be on the radar of the biggest teams just yet anyway - he's not technically done anything amazing with us (looking in from the outside anyway)

As I said in my first post I still feel that IF a team of the level of Barca came in for him it would depend on what was stronger - his investment in out project vs his ambition to manage at the highest level

I guess it's only guess work from any of us really but my personal guess would he that he'd be very tempeted and most likely want to go

At this time though I see no reason to believe a club of that stature will be knocking any time soon (the daily star do nothing to change that)

I know, terrible paper but it still worries me. Only natural he gets linked though
Not worried at all, he'd be foolish to go to Madrid and I just dont think Barca would be in for him. Our performance in the CL hasn't done his profile around Europe any good. I'm confident he will stay for the forseeable future.

Neither will be in for him but you have to be seriously deluded if you think he would turn down an elite club to stay at us.

He may do so one day ( in the future) but I doubt he would leave this season or within the next couple of seasons.

He has Levy's trust. By the time (IF) he completes his current contract, he would have been at the club for seven seasons.
No other manager/coach under Levy, has been given such a contract.

Since he came, the team has been improving season after season.

He has been patiently grooming this set of young players (sprinkled with a few experienced ones) for success and
the way things have been going so far, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel.

He is a manager/coach that prefers grooming young players as opposed to buying titles via high player transfer fees and wages.
The pressure that he is currently under would be nothing compared to what he would be facing at RM or Barca.

Managing a club in the EPL is currently much more challenging than in La Liga or Bundesliga.
There are quite a number of clubs that could possibly win the league each season, instead of just the usual 2 or 3.

Besides the above, I'm pretty sure that he would want to be here when we start playing at the new stadium.

Poch is a young manager with great ambition and he is building a squad and a club up to share that vision. Why walk away now when you are not far off something special??

Maybe in a couple of years the situation will change. It happened with Dortmund who once looked set for a dynasty under Klopp so I'm under no illusion everything will be rosy at Spurs.

But we're heading in the right direction.

Barcelona is a 3-4 year gig at most. Real Madrid is less than that. If he wants it there will another opportunity (or two or three) in his career to move.

He will leave when there is the opportunity too. There is no waiting period here, the opportunity to operate the highest level may not present it again. That is why virtually all managers and players take that opportunity when presented with it.

The notion that he would remain simply due to the
reduced pressure and alternative transfer structure is far fetched. If such things were truly important to him then he would still be at Southampton.

As for staying for the new stadium, well I suspect it will have little bearing on his career choices. He will have done well to even be at the club still given the current pace of managerial turnover.

The Southampton thing has been done to death on here, do we really have to go through it again?

The whole ethos of Poch's management style is not conducive with Madrids operation, Barca maybe and that would be the worry if they came for him!

It's great to have somebody on the forum who clearly is very close to Poch and has a detailed understanding of the man's position. Thanks for sharing and for giving us a glimpse into what life knowing Poch so well must be like. I trust you will be leaving for Spain as soon as he takes up his imminent new position? God speed.

To add to the names already said, Wenger (turned down Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG, and Many City) and Le Tissier.

Shearer, kind of. Could have gone to Man Utd and won a hatfull but went to and stayed at Newcastle, despite them being fairly shit for a lot of the time he was there.

According to Martin Edwards, Blackburn refused to sell to Man Utd, so they were never an option for Shearer to turn down. Plus if I remember correctly, Blackburn wanted to keep him but Shearer asked to leave, so I wouldn't include him as loyal.

Not really because it is quite straight forward a bigger club, with greater resources and capacity wanted him and he left for that reason. And the same rationale would apply if an elite club came in for him. That's how the modern game works, players, coaches managers, right throughout. You would have demonstrate an unbelievable level of naivety to think otherwise.

I couldn't see him at Real Madrid- the turnover there is just too high for a guy like him. They fired Ancelotti, ffs. However, I could easily see him at Barcelona, since that club:

-likes stability,
-promotes youth,
-prizes working from within, and,
-loves playing the game the right way.

None of those attributes apply to Real Madrid. Indeed, RM hired Jose Mourinho- simply because they wanted to win things- whereas Barca wouldn't have appointed The Special One were he the last manager available on the face of the earth.

Additionally, Poch is completely familiar with the culture of the city (which is a different from Madrid as London is from Glasgow), has friends there and speaks Catalan. Furthermore, in a sense, Poch has some unfinished business to take care of in the south of Spain. He left there- under not-so-great circumstances- a mediocre coach of little renown; he would be returning as one of the most sought-after managers on earth.

So yeah- Barcelona's the worry, as it's something which can- and likely will- happen at some point. Let's just hope it's five years from now, after he's accomplished everything he set out to accomplish with us.

The game is a pryamid structure, players and coaches aspire to the reach the highest levels. The elite clubs are ample demonstration of this, they are the representation of the best players and coaches available. Anyone with any sembelance of knowledge and understanding of the game knows this. So I cannot fathom why I would I need a personal relationship with the man to know that he would not refuse a move to a Bayern, Barcalona, Madrid or Manchester United. It would be an extordinary exception to the norm for a coach to do that especially for one at the level of Pochettinho. It always amazes me how supporters can delude themselves and then seek to valid in such an absurd manner.

Except he managed their bitter rivals and has no interest in managing Barcelona so you're wrong.
