Well that's the point...if they don't handle it then it doesn't work...there have been a plethora of strong Italian managers in this league who have used back 3's. Getting it to work here is incredibly different.

He won't have Buffon, Bonucci, Barzagli, and Chiellini with him like he did at Juve and the national team.

Yes obviously, but i think he will give it a shot. And wouldnt be surprised if he tried to sign one of the bbc

Yeah, he reportedly used a back 4 more than he even used a back 3 while he was at Juve.

He definitely used the back 3 more, but he did experiment with a back 4 a lot and found that it generally worked, but just not as convincing as the back 3. It's always suited Juve though. When Allegri took over he tried going back to a back 4 in his first season and after about 15 games he switched back.

One thing with Conte is he almost always plays with a strike partnership up front. Do we reckon Costa and Batshuayi is his plan as a pairing?

Wouldn't have anything to do with Chelsea signing him just because we couldn't sign him would it? Not really surprising that they don't play him.

Interesting criticism of Batshuayi from Ray Wilkins after Chelsea's FA Cup match:

Was gutted we missed out on him, particularly given our struggles with Janssen and the rumours surrounding Paul Mitchell's frustration at perhaps missing out on him. But perhaps the grass is always greener...
His goals per minute ratio is actually pretty good, Ray was trying to justify the rumours that Chelsea are going to bring in Llorente from Swansea and loan them Batshuayi.

Has llorente done well at Swansea?

Or is it just because Conte worked with him at Juve?

Sure, but still criticised his attitude - slightly unfairly IMO.

Those are all the reasons why Janssen made much more sense for us at 18m than Batshuayi did at 34m.

Batshuayi is a very decent box finisher, but Kane does a very similar job for us that Costa does for Chelsea. And Janssen is a much better fit for that role than Batshuayi would have been, just as Conte doesn't see him as fit for that purpose, and even at Marseille, Bielsa preferred an ageing Gignac as starter for similar reasons.

I know I'm in a minority here, but I'm really not overly disappointed with Janssen, so far. In todays market, 18m is fucking peanuts. We needed a striker as back up to Kane, not to play with or instead of. He does the kind of things we need from our lone CF, he hustles and bustles, he presses really well, leads the press well. He content to be back up but still gives his all when he gets on the pitch. We were creatively fucking woeful when he had his run (and the other night), it's not like he's been missing 4 sitters a game.

I don't think he'll ever be RVN, but if he was, Kane would be sitting on our bench now, or more likely off to ManU.

I'm with you there BC.

I think I'm also in the minority and believe Janssen will come good. He's a 22 year old that's shown he can finish with either feet and his head. This isn't a 28 year old Soldado who has one trick of scoring volleys from low crosses. If we ever decide to give him service I'm sure he could finish for us.

Not sure if it's a good idea to judge a player who's been sitting on the bench all season and is eager to impress his team mates.

Yes

Smart move for Chelsea if they can swap Llorente for Batshuayi. Not sure why Swansea would do it - Llorente's been ok for them. 6 goals in 19 games with not great service is not good but not awful. Batshuayi would represent an unknown. Chelsea would benefit from a striker their manager knows well and getting premier league playing time for their young prospect.

On the other hand - seems like Llorente struggles to play week in, week out. Whereas Batshuayi would give them energy and zest. Llorente could then be a bench impact player for Chelsea.
