Why did we let hitchen go in the first place? The scouting world seems to be a bit of a merry go round

Doubt there will be a DOF and all positions are now in place.
Great move getting Steve Hitchen back

Knowing what you know, would you say the set-up/personnel is improved?

Obviously, if you consider this ITK or undue questioning just say so (y)

I wonder if that means we might be able to tap Damien for some scouting work? I think he did a good job whilst he was with us last time. Him and Pleat and Bitchin Hitchin and Poch... That sounds like a great team.

Comolli's started his own business selling analytics software to clubs I think.

Stories doing the rounds last week that Kenny Jackett is working within our academy/development setup, and today there are stories that Keith Millen is now also working with the U18's. Wonder if their involvement will be to pick up some of the DOF role, with Steve Hitchen taking the scouting responsibility? Maybe a shuffle round of responsibilities, with Jackett, Millen, Hitchen and John McDermott filling the DOF role between them??? Previous stories suggest Pochettino and McDermott get on very well, and Jackett and Millen appear to be old friends of McDermott.

Hitchen returns to Tottenham

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino confirmed the club have re-appointed Steve Hitchen as chief scout. Hitchen began work on Monday, resuming a role he previously performed under Harry Redknapp, but the appointment is not linked to Paul Mitchell's position as head of recruitment.

Mitchell tendered his resignation in August but is still serving a 16-month notice period at Spurs. He is due to stay until the end of the year but is unlikely to serve the full term as the club expect to find a replacement before then.

Hitchen worked under former director of football Damien Comolli at White Hart Lane and followed the Frenchman when he left for Liverpool in 2010.

His most recent role was as joint-director of recruitment at Derby alongside former Tottenham scout Rob Mackenzie, but he departed when Nigel Pearson was sacked as manager in October.

Big improvement

JJ, I asked Trix this but maybe you can help. He said we have maybe changed the way "numbers were crunched". Without invading ITK or giving us the who's and why's, do you have any idea what this means in general terms, I just find this very interesting ?

Does this mean, for example, we are changing/upgrading technology to some new data analysing software ? or even reverting to less technical data analysis ?

So we are signing a replacement? Thought JJ said we're done signing people in the scouting dept? Did i misread?

Would be curious to hear about this too.

Interesting, hopefully Poch had some influence on this and Levy must be well aware of Hitchin.

From what i've read, Hitchen worked well with McDermott when he a scout with during the 'Arry era. He'll be reporting to (if what i've read is accurate) Poch, Levy and McDermott. Which leads me to believe that McDermott's scope and responsibilities have increased.

I always have wondered why we get so little official info on what is happening below MP
Most probably because the scouting and coaching positions at a club are quite fluid with change happening from time to time. But if the club makes the structure too well known then it's "why is so and so leaving, what's wrong?"

That's my take on it. McDermott is stepping into a version of the DOR role, with added coaching experience being bought in from outside to help share the load within the development area that has been his remit, Jackett and Millen, and then Hitchen replacing Mitchell.
Only guesswork on my part though.

Makes sense, its obvious we value McDermott's contribution to the development of team over the years and its only fair that he gets more of a say. I'm excited by all this tbf. We have a real opportunity to draw in a lot of talented younger players and actually give them playing time to develop.
