Disagree. The few times he has played in midfield this season has not been up to the standard he set last season. He has gone backwards in my opinion. Last season I was touting him as a future Spurs captain, on this season's performance, no way

You can't expect him to put in stellar performances in cm playing the odd game here and there. Wanyama has come in and done extremely well and displaced him and dier is being shoe horned into the team in positions that are not he's best imo

I think he's very good as the right sided centre back of back three.

Thought davies did better today. Hopefully hes growing into the player we hoped he would be and push on. I get the feeling his confidence hasnt been to good for a while as at 1 point for a decent period literally everything he did was terrible. I hope hes now building better performances and better contributions to the team.
Though walker and dier were under par today. I actually feel veeery neeevy with dier at cb especially in a 2. Right now i feel we would be better playing victor there and dier in cm or bring in winks.

I agree he's better rcb compared to cb in a back 4 but he still has too many mistakes in him playing in defence at this point in time

Its DIer who is the big worry for me at the back. I have no clue what has happened to him this season, but he is very under par.
He is suffering from a lack of positional awareness, sorry to be banging on about this for a couple of years but in his first season his natural ability made up for the weaker side of the game as he learning to play at the highest level, having been mostly a CB, throughout his youth career.

Moving him to DM and did very well as positionally he just need to adapt to the CB's and had them covering him. Going back to CB and he looks lost again. as he doesnt know where he should have been.

You saw the exact same thing happen to Jones(people on this forum actually said at the start of the season that this was a silly comparison as Jones isn't that good). Jones and Dier imo needed to continue to learn at CB if they want to continue as CB. Dier at DM was a great success but he needs to learn a position instead of keeping chopping and changing like Jones.

Not a huge fan of Davies at all but the lad kept it simple and played well today. Needed that bit of confidence
Did pretty well Today. I think most of us agree there is a decent player there just lacking a bit of pace which is prettt fundamental in the FB role the way we play.

Did well yesterday and did well against Gent on Thursday. Hes a very capable left back, unfortunately, when he steps into our side he has some ruddy big boots to fill and again, whilst he is a very good player, his skill set is fundamentally different to that of Danny Rose and we therefore notice a big impact on our side - perhaps a bigger impact than when any other player is missing?

This.
Davies is a very capable player just doesn't have the dynamism of Rose but I like his commitment.

The problem is that we have arguably one of the best left-backs in Europe right now in Danny Rose.
Anyone else covering for him is going to look weak in comparison.
Personally I think Davies is adequate cover, and he's looked fine for the last couple of games.

I can't think for a minute that we could go out in the summer and find someone of Rose's calibre, who will willingly sit on the bench for the majority of the season.

Invariably once Davies gets a few games he tends to find his Rhythm. He's always most exposed after a couple of months out the team trying to find his position and get into the speed. Tough gig being back up to the best LB in the league and I'd like to see anyone not take games to get back.

All that aside please don't ever play him against Mane again...

It isn't about finding someone of equal calibre to Rose, I happen to think he has been our best player this season, what we need is to find someone of a similar playing style so our pattern of play isn't disrupted. In short we need a back up wing back but Davies is a back up full back.

True - but we didn't start the season playing the wing-back system, which is why we didn't bring anyone else in to cover that position.

It's unfortunate for Davies but our style of play has evolved to a place where he doesn't tick enough boxes. Understudy to Rose is a tough gig and without pace it's an impossible one. Opponents will invariably target his side of the pitch which puts him under increased pressure. Last season he rotated very well when we were playing more with a back 4 but we've moved on from that system.

Unfortunately he doesn't get to show his best qualities at Spurs since we often have so much possession. He would be good in a defensive team by necessity, throwing himself in the way of shots, last ditch tackles etc.
