Came off the bench in the 62nd my minute with Yoevil already 3-0 down. The lost 0-4. Harrison drew a fine save from the Luton keeper apparently.

Was at game yesterday and delighted to see Shay get his goal worked very hard. Must say he really did struggle to get into the game and could really do with getting him on the Bale bulking diet, very lightweight.

I may be a skeptic but i have a few suspicions that Bale's bulk (particularly once at Madrid) may not have been achieved entirely through hard work.

As much as i hate speculative nonsense which the above sentance is a glorious example of, i think the kind of gains SH would need to put on will take a fair bit of time, especially at his age - they're just not that easily achieved IMO.

Yes, there are no examples of lanky 6 ft 1 17 year olds becoming bulked up powerhouses by the time they hit their early - mid 20's out there, especially not professional sportsmen who are actually paid money to train and be fit.:banghead:

Hey I said it was a suspicion, wasn't stating it as fact.

I think there's a large amount of top level sports doping that goes on and when you see such contrasting transformations, I think it's healthy to be skeptical as to how they were achieved.

I agree with the right program a young player can add a degree of bulk to compliment their game, if it was so natural though, why doesn't every teen footballer turn into a muscle bound 22/23 year old? I'm simply saying it's not that natural and doesn't happen easily. So saying Tom Carroll, Shayon Harrison etc. 'Needs to add bulk/fill out' usually amounts to nothing.

To answer my own question a little, I appreciate not all players want to add bulk to compliment their playing style.

Football is a running sport..... it's all about degrees of bulking up. Everyone is born with a certain frame, you put more weight on that frame and you'll inevitably have knee and ankle troubles down the line.

It's not a hard and fast rule but I know of one professional sporting team that aim for their players to put on no more than an additional 5% per year from the ages 18-21 as they believe it will impact their career longevity otherwise.
