I wouldn't be surprised to see Ben Davies starting to get a few goals.

He has an incredibly powerful strike, and I think it's largely bad luck that he hasn't scored a few already. I can think of a few times where he's cut in from the left and unleashed a belter, only for the keeper to pull of an incredible save or for it to hit the woodwork.

If he keeps it up, a few will start doing in and we could be looking at a valuable 3 or 4 goals a season from left back.

DAVIES ON WING-BACK ROLE: 'IT'S A LOT OF RUNNING BUT THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT'

The versatile Welsh international has been seen galloping up and down the left flank plenty of times of late, combining his more recognised defensive responsibilities with the need to get forward and support our attack from the wide areas.

Having spent the majority of his career operating as a more traditional left-back, or on the left side of a back three with Wales, the 23-year-old admits his current role slightly higher up the pitch represents a bit of a change to what he’s been used to.

But with Danny Rose on the sidelines and Ben enjoying an extended run in the team, the former Swansea City man is full of enthusiasm over his duties on the field.

Asked if he likes his attacking responsibilities within our current formation, he replied: “Of course! It’s part and parcel of the position, trying to get forward and trying to help the team score goals. That’s what you want to be part of at the end of the day.

“I’ve always said that defending is first and foremost for me but it’s a nice little change. It’s a lot of running – that’s what me and Trips (Kieran Trippier) had to do on Sunday (against Millwall) and what we’ve had to do with Kyle Walker over the last couple of weeks but in the end it’s always lovely to get a win.”

So does fatigue come into play for someone like Ben when occupying such a physically-demanding position? “It’s hard work but it’s what you want to do as a footballer, to get as much of the ball as you can out there,” he added.

“You do see it a lot and it’s hard work but it’s great and I certainly can’t complain. With every match that’s going by it’s another 90 minutes under my belt so it’s great, especially when we’re winning games like this.”

He's been getting much stick this season (quite a bit of it undeserved in my opinion), but this last two games, he's been looking like he did last season. Nullified Townsend on Wednesday, bossed Chamberlain yesterday, and played a very good attacking game. Love his spirit.

Agree. I know Jan and Vic were both great yesterday, as were all the side. I voted him my MOTM though. Didn't think he was up to much tbh, but his ceiling and contribution just keep going up, game on game. Keep it quiet, but I'm actually starting to quite like him....:eek:

Seeing as I'm the designated "shout out to Ben Davies" guy, I will yet again be shouting out to Ben Davies. Good game yet again, and intereting tactically that he often tucked into a CM position when we dominated possession to free up Wanyama or Dier to venture forward, whereas Alli would support Son in instigating attacks to the left.

He was excellent yesterday.

He did have a good game but Bailly still ended up getting 2 excellent crosses into the box and fortunately Utd had no one near them. That said he still did brilliantly against an opponent that was quicker and stronger than him and got up the pitch really well.

He's been great for weeks, deserves massive credit for the part he has played, especially given Rose was our best player at the point he got injured.

Taken strides this spring. It's like a light bulb switched on in February and he became a top 4 team footballer over night.

Nah, he just had a run of games so he got into rhythm. Very few footballers can play irregularly and perform at high standard. It takes a good run of games to find that consistency.

I think Ben deserves immense credit for how he's improved after a run of games. Great to see. Not only much more confidence in his forward runs and passing, but also his energy levels in pressing, tackling and intercepting. Absolute peach of a cross for the opener yesterday too (y)

His step up in performance level really just shows the effect confidence and a run in the team can have.
