Well, the estimated prize money for 2nd place is £144m from TV rights alone.

If my memory serves me correctly, a couple of years ago DL reportedly changed from high basic and lower bonuses to the other way around. That would mean that the more they won the more income the club would receive at the end of the season, making it sustainable. Now whether the income would allow for wages around the £120k pw we really have no idea. For sure we do need to be more competitive to try and keep our best players. For the players there is a balancing act between being at a successful club and getting more money at a lower placed club e.g. Man U, Citeh, Liverpuddle, Arsenal etc. :sneaky:

DL has brought the club into a very successful position in terms of league position and the new stadium will in due course help the finances. I trust him to get the balance right

I think this is a tough spot for the club.
Levy has done brilliantly to get players signed up. They are mostly still young and will see the benefit of growth, increased salary and know that a big pay day here or somewhere else is possible.
There will, unfortunately, be a little attrition but the key to minimizing the impact is to take the following steps:
1. Keep Poch
2. Keep improving wage packages as best you can to show good will
3. Lose no more than one key player in a year (maybe it is Walker this summer)
4. Look to exchange some of the weaker links for players with a similar profile

On this last point. If we sell Sissoko, GKN, Clinton, Fazio and have the Nabil money banked, can we add some genuine youth and quality to the side? Pau looks like a certainty. Sessegnon would be a good mid to long term play and then perhaps one genuine change maker. Ideally from a club with a similar approach to Poch. Pulisic could be that player.

If we sell the fringe guys you are looking at 60 odd million. Pau, Sessengnon set you back around 17. Could you get Pulisic for 35 odd million? Possibly. Would also create a little more room on the wages side as well.

Now if Walker is sold, the funds to get Dembele from Celtic are probably in place.
EDIT: although am not sure I like that....would rather use those funds to bolster some pay packets of current players.

Wouldn't be a disaster of a window and sends a good signal to the collective group

I think Levy should close up his contract with 90kpw with huge bonus... lets not screw round with our 1st choice CB

If toby is asking for the same as lloris then he definitely deserves it as he (like lloris) is one of the best in his position

I really wouldn't worry. No point in offering a contact until the end of the season, and no point Toby's people negotiating one until we know exactly where we finish up. As I posted in the transfer speculation thread, I was told there will be plenty of contract talks once the season ends.

@dsmoove which part of my last post do you disagree with?

The I wouldn't worry but I imagine

Everyone's worried about something at the moment.

We used to be too rubbish to keep hold of our good players and now we are too good to keep hold our good players because we don't pay the poor sods £150k a week and they are having to scrounge a living on £70k a week

After reading the latest rumour that Toby wants at least 100k per week, I suddenly, somehow feel much happier... I think Levy will not grumble too much about paying all our top players 100k per week and I think Toby will get what he wants - just not the clause.
