I have liked Son from the beginning and said as much on another message board. Yes, his control can sometimes be lacking and he misses some chances (all goal scores do), but his movement off the ball is absolutely world class. I think this is a part of the game that is completely overlooked by many. Dele has the same thing. Son's first season was hit and miss but mainly from struggles with a foot injury, IMO.

Regarding him as a sure starter, not necessarily if we play the 3-4-2-1 that seems to be our preferred formation; however, he is now providing real competition for Dele and Eriksen as well as being a cover option for Harry. What a great attacking quartet to have on one side.

Bearing in mind that:
1) He's essentially an AM and has largely played there; and
2) He's supposedly a back up

...the fact that he's scored a goal every 141 minutes is sensational. Nothing short of. That's better than strikers of the class of:

Ibrahomivic
Costa
Benteke
Defoe

...and other AMs like:

Mane
Coutinho
Alli
Hazard

....the list goes on, but seriously, to think we were unsure if he'd actually be here this season? That he's outscored Costa and Zlatan (who was on the Player of the Year list FFS!) in particular I think is extraordinary.

He is not an AM. He may roam/run around a lot and drop deep but he is essentially a forward.

He is not a starter in the 3421 set-up.

He is ahead of a healthy Lamela in the 4231, though I could see them as part of a rotation, with one always on the bench.
At the form he's in, he should be a starter in 3421 as well, with Dembele dropping to the bench and Eriksen playing alongside Wanyama.

I have always been a Son fan and didn't want him sold but there was plenty of merit in the criticism directed at him last season. I never understand why people use examples and ingnore the ones that didn't work out.
Because people prefer to look at the glass half full rather than half empty??

if he improves his first touch and his shuffle before he strikes a ball, he would be absolutely fucking deadly.

probably would have 5 to 7 more goals in his reocrd. so many times he fucked himself out of a chance due to his first touch or footwork. fucking love him and his handshakes lol

Well they shouldn't, they should look the whole glass and what is in it and make a judgement whether that is good or not.

In Korea he's as big as Messi/Ronaldo and our fanbase has grown massively in that region because of him and the great football we play.

People have some fantasy that Lamela would walk back in the team and Son would be left out. I'm a big fan of Erik but Son has been one of our best players and should always be starting in my opinion.

Just need to see WHL on a match day to see how many Son fans have come to see him. Think it's great that he is a quality player above all else but then also adding some clear commercial value in terms of growing the clubs profile

Those stats put him in the top bracket of players in the league. Those who watch him week in week out know his game can be a bit hot and cold but this is the exact sort of signing we should be making

A much surer bet than the raw potential bargain GKN and N Jie punt type of signings but not insane fees or wages and with a higher potential ceiling but still a v good player for the here and now regardless

I think people understimate how popular he is, this video of his touches against Leicester already has 500,000 (!) views after 1 day, and it's pretty clear from the comments that almost all of these are from Koreans.

From that clip alone, Dele has made 3 of his now trademark toe-flick or scoop passes to Son. Shades of Hoddle, I must say.

We were doing that for fun all evening to be fair. Even Harry delivered one for Son's bicy.

Heck, even Toby found himself at right wing twice, one leading to a goal. It was an unusual game to say the least!

Fantastic today. Constantly buzzing around their defence causing trouble. Great display. Deserved a goal.

Lamela gets nowhere near the starting 11 on his return. Really needs to prove himself again.

If he is still here next season, he deputizes for Eriksen - where I think it may actually suit him better - being a creator, instead of being asked for goals.
