Chelsea, classy as ever.....

"The Blues are trying to redevelop their ground as success continues on the pitch but their project manager couldn't help having a dig at their rivals

The director of Chelsea's stadium project team has had a cheeky dig at Tottenham as the clubs both prepare to upgrade their venues in the coming years.

Hugh Rosen is leading the development on behalf of Roman Abramovich as the west London outfit look to match rivals Tottenham and Arsenal by building a 60,000-seater stadium in the UK's capital city.

In a rare question and answer session, which took place at an event honouring Eddie McCreadie, Rosen told ex-Chelsea player Jason Cundy about the club's plans and.

"To be fair to Tottenham, they are not just looking for football," Rosen said. "They are looking for American Football, looking at rugby and as far as I am concerned if they can't win at football they are welcome to try any other sport they like.

"For us, Roman [Abramovich] gave us one brief, the whole stadium, the billion pounds or whatever it is going to cost, is about winning football matches. There is nothing else. There are no pop concerts, no boxing, no American Football and no other team, just our home priority.

"Everything was designed around the existing centre spot, it doesn't move and everything revolves around that. Here we are, 112 years into our history trying to rebuild our stadium for the fifth time on our own site, around our own pitch.

"There are 13 London clubs, this is the only one that has never moved home ground and never will move home ground."

A date for the completion of the project has yet to be set, but Rosen gave an update on why the club is being patient as they look likely to play their football temporarily at Wembley Stadium. He also gave an update on the architecture of the stadium which has been based upon London's iconic Westminster Abbey.

Chelsea shouldn't be allowed to take the piss out of anyone ever. They are only successful literally because of Abramovic's money. Never mind the fact that what we're doing is a whole regeneration of the Tottenham area whereas what they're doing is purely for Chelsea FC and Chelsea FC only, which is very much in line with the attitude of a recently retired captain of theirs.

Of course what he's omitting there is that they're being forced to do all that, because the pitch isn't owned by the club!

So if Chelscum are ever offered a large amount of money to stage other sports or other events, they'd turn down the offer? Yeah, right.

Question is - could they? As noted by @Ribble above/below the Chelski Pitch Owners Club have a big say in how things get done there. I think they're pretty restricted in terms of having flexible facilities on this basis - those owners care about the football club, not the commercials so would be unlikely to back something more open to commercial use or for other sports IMO.

Exactly, also omitting the fact they actually lodged a bid for the Battersea Power Station site a few years ago now - so perhaps this was to force the push for redevelopment but if the commercials stacked up, i'm sure Abramovich would have made it work.

I have to admit I'd forgotten about Chelscum Pitch Owners.

It was Ribble that reminded me - it's presented them with a few issues over the years in terms of making commercial decisions for the club as the fans want what's best for the fans, so can be somewhat difficult.

It's fantastic leverage to have over a club like that but i have to say - if a consortium of Spurs fans had the same level of sway over what we did and when (as a business, not as a football club) i think we wouldn't be where we are at present. No disrespect to our fellow fans whose input may be better than some owners but against someone like Levy, i think we'd have been a hindrance rather than a help over the years :)

I posted the above 45 minutes ago and since then I can't get a thought out of my head.
Belgium training- both Toby and Jan on one side and Hazard on the other.
Toby and Jan clatter into Hazard resulting in him not getting injured; but with his theatrics and showmanship stumbles causing him to twist his ankle.
This just makes the world alright by me!

They'll obviously spend their way out of it, but a bad start to the summer for Chelsea. Costa desperate to leave and Hazard not back until September. How enjoyable!

Costa's been told by Conte that he's no longer in his plans and can leave. Hardly surprising when he was pushing for a move recently.

I guess this fits in with the Lukaku rumours.

Lukaku replacing Costa is a massive downgrade if you ask me

He's not as good but at least you're get a professional who won't take his eye of the job, swings and roundabouts
Everton fans might disagree, they say that he put in zero effort for the last few games and were pleased Kane ended up winning the golden boot as they thought it served him right.
