Everton will listen to offers for Ross Barkley this summer but want £50m for the England midfielder, according to reports.

The Toffees accept that they can do no more following lengthy contract talks with the 23-year-old, who is reportedly refusing to sign despite being offered £100,000-a-week.

Chairman Bill Kenwright is said to have been working for more than a year on trying to get one of the club’s homegrown talents to commit his future but has now given up his hopes.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has now turned his attention to finding a suitable replacement for Barkley, who will be out of contract next summer and allowed to leave on a free, despite the club’s board still holding out slim hopes that he might stay, according to the report in the Daily Mirror.

Manchester United and Tottenham have both been strongly linked with a move for the playmaker but may now be put off by the asking price, with both having been prepared to pay nearer £30m.

This is why negotiations exist. Especially with Levy, clubs start high then Levy works them down to a couple pennies.

They'll be lucky to get half that, given he only has a year left on his contract. He's clearly talented and has all the attributes to succeed in the Prem, think Poch could do wonders for him.

Price is quite high but we can clearly see he can cut it in the PL. You pay a premium for footballers who are proven in the PL. We've spunked near 40 mill on N'Jie, Janssen and N'Koudou and what impact have they made? I'd have no doubt Barkley would better their performances and under Poch, he can be a regular in the England set up. I would be careful not to overpay though with only one year left on his contract.

I think he could do moussa's job in the middle next to dier or wanyama.

Why?

He's always played a lot further up the pitch.

And I'd much rather see Winks in there over him if Dembele is absent.

If we get for around 18million it's worth a gamble , possibly a top player if coached right .

We all know Levy will walk into their boardroom and counter offer with a cornish pasty, bag of crisps and a can of coke.

That being said I really don't see the point in signing Barkley for that price, or for 30 Million quid for that matter either. I know the market has become a bit inflated but he simply isn't worth more than 20 Million when his contract is entering the last year.

If we were going to spend 30-40 million I'd rather we go for Saul Niguez or someone like that, who is young but has proven to be a really valuable player and on a lengthy contract.

This is based purely on economics, I am not saying Barkley is not good enough as a footballer. (y)

What stats are you going on?
Goals and assists are the most important stats for a player that plays in his position imo

Chances created, key passes, pass completion etc. He's in the top 10 in the league for assists, it isn't bad considering. Only 4 players created more chances per game than him last season.

I just don't see Barkley as a fit for us.

I'd much rather someone like Sandro Ramirez who can play up top or attacking midfield.

Plus we already have Son and Lamela as options there.

50m:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:o_O. Erm am i the only one who feels anything more than 18 is a rip off?
I mean, his collective stats and showings in the premier league have been nothing more than average imo. Totally over-hyped and a 'a small spell every few games' of promosing play.
