Bollocks. He's got the 5th highest pass accuracy percentage this year averaging more than 86% while being the player passing the 2nd most times on average per game over the entire season.... Add to that that one of those players above him is Lesnisk making him de facto 4th. Remarkable when also considering he has the joint second most minutes.
How many positive forward passes?

If the Janssen thing is true, We seem to be developing a habit of signing players for a season, never giving them a real chance to settle or prove themselves and possibly moving them on
Clint
GKN
VJ

VJ is young, has had only one season of top flight football before joining us, albeit in a weaker league. Someone saw something in him to pay £18m or whatever it was. I think he could well develop into a good PL player and would like us to keep him, or possibly loan him out for development and game time if we get someone else in

0%, every time he gets the ball he lumps it back to Hugo.

It's because he's a centre back used in midfield, it's not like he was trained in every position in a foreign country growing up did he.

Onto topic though, IF, and it's a big IF, Man United think yeah let's do the deal, I don't think there is a player out there like Dier to replace, Xabi Alonso has praised him for the way he moves the ball, but along with that he's tall, strong, has decent speed & is fully committed to every challenge.

Who else can we get who is realistic with all those traits?

Dier was an integral part of the squad that finished 2nd last season.

If we put him up for sale, I'd hazard a guess that each and every club would be interested in him

So the general agreement is, Die is the be all and end all, there are no better players anywhere than Dier lol I simply think there are and that Poch can get us a better player.

We'll see, if he kicks up a fuss about starting, he'll be out the door like Walker.

You wanted to sell Rose not long ago, I'll pass on your judgement thanks.

Also to note, the goal against Hull, Dier over to Trippier to Kane, it's a fantastic almost foreign style of goal, Trippiers technique was fantastic but as was Dier's, Slugworth wouldn't do that for us

I doubt that ITK on Dier. Poch has recently praised him, talked about him being a player important to the system and has allowed Spurs to play three at the back (due to versatility), and hinted he could be captain one day.

As others have said, the comment isnt suggesting that we are prepared to let Dier go, it's telling United to fuck off.

And wants to start every game but won't unless we play 3 at the back. There have been rumblings he had a problem with this. Maybe like Walker, Poch is happy to show him the door.
Look, whether you rate him or not is irrelevant, Poch does. There has been no talk of the player wanting out, so selling him would be utter madness.

Pochettino said a quote a while back
About when signing players they only sign to train not necessarily play.
If the guys you mentioned where/are good enough they would of got more chances.
Pochettino sees this players day in day out and if he's happy to show them the door that's good enough for me

To be fair, VJ got 38 appearances with us this year including 12 starts, so he was given some time to get it right with us...

I think he works hard and there are some signs of talent there, but like Soldado when he was with us the most complimentary thing we are able to say about him is that he works hard when he is on the pitch.

He brings some things we can use (physicality, work rate, he seems to get in decent positions) to the game, unfortunately the thing we need him to do most, score goals, he hasn't done. If we moved him and upgraded the slot he filled i think it would be worthwhile.

How many positive forward passes?

Most of his forward passes go to the offensive third pretty equally divided between the left and right wing, often to where our full backs are when attacking, plus the area between the defence and midfield i.e. Eriksen's general position. On a snapshot of passing maps over the season his forward passes outweigh jis sideways or back passes.

I realise that I just wasted my time typing this, as you are no doubt not one to admit that your opinion is based on nothing factual, but rather that you just don't fancy Dier as a player. In fairness I have no problem with that but don't try and justify it with nonsense.

I am quite happy to admit my opinion is based on nothing more that what I have observed

If this turns into a 'merits of Jansen' thread i'm going to get my old chap out and we'll play my version of spin the bottle.

And if anyone wants to discuss the merits of Dier, then get thee hence to the relevant thread in Spurs Chat.
